Church Cliques and Political Picks

DISCLAIMER: This blog post is purposely hyperbolic and any similarities to persons living or dead should be viewed as a sign that that person needs Jesus....I mean REALLY needs Jesus. We're one month away from the election and it seems that the campaign team of Ben Winston has started to amp up their campaign tactics weather you're a willing supporter or not. The other night, after coming from a delightful night of hearing the Mississippi Mass Choir, I drove through Lumberton and noticed a lot of newly placed "Help Ben Win" campaign signs. I thought to myself that a lot of people have went over to the dark side. Well, the next morning, I was contacted by several people that said that someone had placed a Ben Winston campaign sign in their yard without their permission. I like to say I was surprised but that's the nature of Ben's supporters; they slither around at night and trespass on people's property in an effort to give others the im...

Which Way Do We Go?

Image
Just the other day, I was contacted by the daughter of a concerned citizen. It seems that there's still some confusion about the exact address to her mother's house. Sadly, two years ago it was discovered that the 911 operator could not locate her address and this discovery happened at the worst possible time. After her daughter passed out and was in need of emergency care, a call was made to 911 and the could not find her house. It wasn't because of lighting or the street name; it was because the address was not logged into the system. Somehow, there's multiple addresses for a house that sits alone on Grand Alley. They emergency response team did not know if the address was 805 5th Avenue, 604 5th Avenue or 604 Grand Alley. As you know, in an emergency situation, every minute is important. The emergency response team wasted precious time trying to locate the house. Sadly, the person died that needed medical assistance. There's no way of...

Image
Today, in Jackson, Mississippi, Lumberton native, Willie "Wee" Heidleberg was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. Coach Heidelberg is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, where he was a letterman running back for the Golden Eagles during the 1970 and 1971 seasons. On October 17th 1970, Heidelberg helped lead Southern Mississippi to a 30-14 upset victory over Archie Manning and the fourth ranked Ole Miss Rebels. Heidelberg also played football at Pearl River Community College (1968-1969). He is a member of the Pearl River CC Sports Hall of Fame. "Coach Heidelberg was a humble man of few words, but with a life of untold impact. He is an example to us all of how “to serve, not be served.” Belhaven Director of Athletics, Scott Little In one of his last recorded interviews, Heidelburg says rarely a week goes by when somebody doesn’t mention that day 40 years ago when he ran into the end zone twice and into history – not just black histo...

Ms. Mary: A Paragon of Love

Image
On the sixth day of Creation God created man in His own image but even God knew that His work was not done until he created woman. Regardless of the might of man, there are things that couldn’t be accomplished without the caress, the wink, the unconditional love, the pat on the back, the sustenance, the maintenance of a woman. I praise God Almighty that we were bestowed with such a woman as Mary Toney, the one I affectionally called Ms, Mary. Last week, when I heard the news that she had transitioned into eternity, my heart grew heavy but the memory of her smile, her warmth and her compassion has given me comfort. I am still grieving over the fact that I won’t see her smile or hear her comforting words on this side of Glory but I don’t grieve as those who have no hope. ". . She is clothed with strength and dignity. She can laugh at things to come. She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not...

Imagine....

Yesterday I was supposed to go before the judge regarding the lawsuit that's being levied against my First Amendment Rights by the Lumberton City Jerk Clerk. As I expected, almost all of Lumberton's elected officials were present; despite the tragedy that occurred in his family, Bobby Gibson decided not to comfort his sister but opted to come to court to support his boss, Ben Winston. I arrived early for two reasons: so I could speak with my attorney and so I could look the snakes in their eyes when they came up the stairs. However, I wasn't prepared for the large crowd that was waiting in the corridor. Apparently, there are people, unlike the thief, Jay McGraw, that must go before a judge to answer to their crimes. Since I had my back to the entrance, the snakes slithered in one by one. When I looked up, I saw Melissa slither by. So I'm guessing that her testimony was purchased with the 32 hours of work she was given after ...

Though My Enemies Encamp About Me...God is With Me

Image
I am going into court this morning and I am asking for your prayers because I will face accusations from most of the elected and appointed officials of the City of Lumberton. We live in an age where a member of Congress can call the President of the United States a liar during the State of the Union Address, we live in an age where terrorists are giving religious protection and their representatives are allowed to addressed the UN but here in the small city of Lumberton, freedom of speech, transparency in government, access to public records and growth is shunned. This is a sad day for this city and this is a sad day for the freedom of speech we are guaranteed as citizens of the United States of America. As I get ready to go into battle, I am comforted by Psalms 27: 1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me t...

My Freedom of Speech is NOT Negotiable

Image
The readers of this blog know that I am being sued by the Lumberton City Clerk. It seems that she is offended by the fact that I exercise my freedom of speech. On Tuesday, September 22, 2015 we will go to court and see if Freedom of Speech as unwanted in the City of Lumberton as progress. Since no one was subpoenaed for this case, it will be interesting to see who attends this trial. I am certain that most of the elected officials of Lumberton will be there despite their record of telling half-truths, stealing and other durrrty deeds. It's possible that a former elected official may be ready to take the stands as well. The fact that elected officials and candidate in the upcoming election have a vested interest in shutting down my freedom of speech speaks volumes of their agenda. It is my belief that we need more people speaking out. Contrary to popular belief, the City of Lumberton is not overrun with free thinkers; it's overrun with sheep and conformists....
