The Changing of the Guard July 3, 2009

Mayor Elect-Miriam R. Holder and the Board of Alderpersons will take their oath of office on July 3, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place at the 5th Avenue School, and will be follwed by a reception and performances by the Lumberton Strings. Typically, the inauguration of the Mayor is a small and private affair but Mayor Elect Miriam Holder wanted to make this one different. She wanted to make it about community. She wanted to make it about all the residents of Lumberton.

This is the start of a new day. The day when the word “change” ceases be a campaign slogan and starts to become a reality. Change is an easy word to say. But it’s a difficult word to enact. Together, the newly elected mayor and board of alderpersons can bring about the change that this city and its citizens so rightfully deserve.
