Correction: Who's Running 2013?

Last week, there was some misinformation about those running for mayor. Unfortunately, I was given some incorrect information. So, I went to City Hall to see the list for myself. It seems that all of the current elected officials have picked up their qualifying papers, sans Timothy Johnson. As of now, Timothy Johnson has not picked up any papers for re-election and he is not running for mayor. However, his father-in-law, Ben Winston, has filed qualifying papers to run for mayor. I don't know if he will actually go out an campaign or if he's just gonna go from pulpit to pulpit asking for votes. . . One thing's for certain, I hope he's not planning on dusting those old Help Ben Win campaign signs from the Lamar County District Supervisor's race. So far, the mayoral race includes Mayor Miriam R. Holder and Rev. Benjamin Winston. Bobby Gibson will be challenged by Cora Rogers, Kent Crider will be challenged by Fire Chief, Jerry Walters. Walters has said he will not ask for a salary if elected. He stated that he is there to serve the community and to bring about unity; not division. At this moment, Alderman J. McGrew and Alderman Quincy Rogers are not being challenged. As of now, Tommy Dukes is the lone candidate for Ward 4. Recently, I saw a sign on Myrick Avenue stating something about "are you registered to vote in the Lumberton election." This sign is posted by someone that's not really into politics, but I get the feeling that someone in his family is planning on running for office. We shall see.
