In collaboration with the Summer Learning Program, the Lumberton Public Library is hosting the "Be a Hero" blood drive. The even will take place at the Lumberton Public Library on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, from 12 pm until 5:30 pm. Volunteers and donors are needed. If you are interested in helping, please contact the library by calling 601-796-4227.

Wednesday, August 5, 2015, also marks the beginning of the 2015-2016 academic school year in Lumberton. Sadly, the svhool year is beginning without a beloved student, Jayla Hope Sandifer. We continue to pray for the Sandifer and Bolton families during their time of bereavement. We also pray for the students, teachers, administrators and support personnel as they enter a new year.

Dear God,

Thank you for the gift of children. Please watch over them as they go back to school and protect them from negative influences. Help them to be a light to others, and help them show love, care, and respect to their peers, teachers, administrators, janitors and support personnel. Please protect them from bullies wnile giving them the courage to stand up for themselves and others. Opem their minds and help them to embrace the lessons being taught. Help them to excel socially, academically and emotionally. Protect their minds, bodies and souls. In the mighty name of Jesus.

Dear Heavenly Father, touch those that come in contact with the students everyday; the bus drivers, teachers, principles, teacher's aides, counselors, secretaries, libriarians, cafeteria workers and janitors. May they execute their jobs with a spirit of excellence and serve as a positive role model for others. As they enter a new academic year, restore their energy, increase their creativity and grant them patience. Restore their passion for their chosen profession and help them to nurture those you put in their charge. Transform them as they seek to transform. Guide them as they seek to guide. Open then their hearts and minds as they seek to open hearts and minds. May the seeds of academic excellence be planted in good soil. Bless them on the morrow and continue to bless and sustain them throughout the academic year. In the Gracious Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen!

The Democratic and Republican primaries are today. I hope you will exercise your privilege to vote. The monthly boatd meeting is tonight. Hope to see you there. Take care and God Bless!
