He Said. . .She Said: The Lumberton Edition

Image
Many of you read the "Recap of the June 5, 2012 Board Meeting" post where I made some disparing remarks about one of the persons that read (drives the truck) water meters. Somehow, everyone that had a loved one on the meter truck felt attacked. So, let me give you the break down of what happened and what I posted because it's obvious there is a real issue with reading and comprehension. I posted the following: ". . .for the most part, the Lumberton Public Works Department has an uneducated staff. . .The board need to stop their bickering and hire one meter reader to read the meters. . they should pay them somewhere between .50-.75/meter and make sure they can pass a 6th grade math test. . .City hall keeps losing money in the water department because they had to hire a reading rider because the clerks got tired of giving Roy turn by turn directions . ." That's part of what I said. .the rest is in the blog. . Now, this is the response from the wife of one of...

Politician or Pharoh

Image
Recently, the Pearl River Board of Supervisors had to make some serious cuts in their budget and they cut $50,000 from the budget of the library and all government employees, must take a furlough of one day every other week. It was said that in tough times, tough decisions must be made. At this moment, the Lamar County Board of Supervisors haven't completed work on their new budget. Hopefully, the cuts made in support to the Pat Harrison Water Way District will help them in the services they provide to the citizens of Lamar County. It's not certain if they are going to make any cuts to the Lamar County Library, but it is a possibility. In this day and age, it seems that politicians seem to think they can force departments to make brick without straw. There has been a barrage of news reports about the proposed one cent tax increase in Pearl River County. It seems that city, county, state and federal agencies think they can raise revenue without raising taxes. Sorry, but it...

Motives

Image
The other day, it was reported that Alderman at Large was present for the certification of the votes. What are his motives for being there? It's strange that he has time to attend that meeting but couldn't make room in his schedule to attend the board meeting to vote on a new insurance carrier. I don't know why this election was so important to Gibson, but sooner or later, his true motives will show in the voting pattern. We probably will never understand the TRUE motives behind Gibson political aspirations, but I have a theory on why he ran in the first place. For those of you that might not remember, some years ago, Gibson applied for the position of Public Works Director. Holder and Rogers were serving as aldermen at the time. For some reason, Gibson wasn't hired; a perfume attendant was. I think over the years, Gibson has let that moment build up and now that he's an elected official of Lumberton, he's using his position/influence to run this city into th...

Anonymous--The Lumberton Edition

Sometimes I come across posts that are just fitting for what I need to say. This morning's post will come from the Book of Pat (L). . Thanks, friend. . "After much deliberation, this is my conclusion!!!! I think I know why I offend some people. Sometimes people harbor feelings they don't want to be reminded they have. If you are one of those people then YOU should be ashamed of yourself (not the other way around). Trying to make me feel inadequate for expressing myself won't help your dilemma. Did I make you "SEE" yourself for who you REALLY are? I mean, why jump on MY blog and basically tell me to stop using it for my own personal motives. You use it the way you choose with your cowardly, anonymous, baseless remarks; so don’t question me when I do the same!!!! Don't get it twisted rabble rousers . . .I’m not asking permission and you don't have to attend this party. If you invite yourself just remember who invaded whose space! I am happy with ...

Special Election: Ward 2

Image
There is a special election being held today to fill the position vacated by Rebecca Hale. The residents of Ward 2 will vote to select a new representative. They will be choosing between Deborah Gallagher and Jay McGraw. It is rare to have two well-loved, well-respected individuals running for the same position. It's going to be a tough choice for the residents of Ward 2 because both of the candidates will be a welcomed addition to this administration. Good luck and regardless of who wins, it seems that Ward 2 will have a winner representing them at the next board meeting. Hopefully, the winner of this special election won't change after taking the oath of office or at least remember the oath while voting on issues of the city.

Onboard or Overboard: The Choice is Yours

This post was inspired by a Facebook friend. Over the weekend, I was looking at the weekly reports and suggestions I received about my blogger account and I was surprised to see the listing of the my top 10 blog posts. Now, the self-righteous, holier than thou crew want to act like no one is reading the blog and talk about how it's a waste of time, but the numbers are telling a different story. The top three stories as of 06/21/2012 are as follows: Woman's Worth had 1,217 views, Recap of June 5, 2012 Board Meeting had 1,092 views and Making Adjustments had 987 views and that's not including the views via Facebook. There's this sentiment that I shouldn't say negative, but true, things about people and that I should post more positive stories. I agree that the blog should be more balanced, but the City of Lumberton is dying because people are electing incompetent individuals because of church/club affiliation instead of electing people that want to see Lumberton thri...
