Liars and Buyers

Image
I didn't plan on blogging today but when I logged onto the Hattiesburg American I saw an article entitled "A trade in the future for Lumberton armory?" Before I discuss the article, I would like to discuss the inflated water bills we received. Prior to the meeting, there were several stories regarding the late water bills; stories ranged from blaming the post office to blaming the customers. At the meeting, nothing was said about the late water bills and there was not mention of any adjustments regarding the due date. One of the reasons why they don't hold Merlene accountable for her lack of professionalism is because they know the water bills do not contain a post mark. We know we received the water bills late but we can't prove it because they can say they were delivered to the post office on time but we don't actually see when they were received by the post office. When Merlene tried to explain why the water bills were higher than...

Common Core and Controlled Substances: The Secret Life of a Teacher

Image
On January 19, 2017, Ramona Ellen Bennett, second grade teacher at Lumberton Elementary School, was arrested for the sale of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school or church. The arrest happened almost two weeks ago, but the general public just found out about the arrest over the weekend. At the time of this blog post, the school administrative office was closed but I'm interested to know if she is still employed by the Lumberton School District? As you know, certain people that commit crimes in Lumberton are given a pass. Perhaps she was selling the drugs on her lunch break or after school. The City of Lumberton Board of Aldermen used that analogy to justify Danny Davis's assault against me. They said they were not liable because he was a salaried employee and the assault happened on his lunch break (at 9:30 in the morning). As soon as the office open, I will call to see if she was at least suspended after getting charged wi...

Night Court: Lumberton Edition

Image
Although I requested to have the venue of the trial changed, I went to court tonight to see Judge Anderson in action. When I entered the board room/court room, Anderson was in the middle of pronouncing a sentence but he stopped talking and stared at me while I was looking for a seat. At that moment, I realized that it wasn't necessary for me to introduce myself. I'm not a regular at court and most of my appearances in court has involved department heads in the City of Lumberton. After sitting down, it seemed like Anderson was administering some seemingly fair justice but it was soon evident that there was some bias to his action. I noticed that some of the people that stood before him were given more grace than others; especially those that were telling him how it was to see him again. I noticed that one person was getting some advice from the judge on how to make sure the incident didn't get placed on his record while several others were found guilty...

Just Cloth on a Stick?

Image
Today we honor the men and women that died in service to their country but does that include the soilders from the Confederate States of America? After all, Memorial Day was adapted from Decoration Day, an observance that honored Confederate soldiers. As we all know, the State of Mississippi is the ONLY state clinging to the Confederate flag as a representation of their state. Keep in mind, the flag was adopted in 1894. Depending on who you ask, the flag represents honor, duty, courage but it also represents segregation, Jim Crow and is often recognized as a symbol of hate. In recent news, Gov. Phil Bryant of Mississippi, touted the great strides made in race relations but keep in mind that in the State of Mississippi, they can't honor Martin Luther King, Jr. without adding a Confederate general. But, in his eyes, we're making progress. There are some that view the Confederate flag as a symbol of hate and others view it as a symbol of their heritage. For those that tout the...

Slander 101

Image
So many people think that when they say, “I’m going to call my lawyer” that it’s going to make me stop doing or saying the things that I say, but it’s not. I’ve been down this road before and I wish people would take the time to look up the meaning of the word slander. That’s not to say that there aren’t any lawyers out there that would take up the case, but if you would look at the picture that’s attached to this post, you will notice that it’s an arrest photo that was taken in Meridian, MS. Some of you may not know this, but arrest reports and photos are public record and sharing this information is not slander. I also wonder why people think court cases are one sided because if and when I’m taken to court, I have a list of people that I will subpoena that will prove my case and not to mention the information that I’m hoping to find from my search of the arrest records in Hattiesburg, Petal and Meridian. But those of you that read the Informer know that this is not the fist ti...

Call The Po Po. . Ho

Image
Many of you may have noticed that I was wrapping up the blog and getting ready to shut it down, but just when I thought there was nothing left to blog about, I became enthralled in my own Rodney King moment. Yesterday, I shared a link to wtok.com that had a photo and news story about on of Lumberton’s police officers. Apparently, Darren Dennis “The Menace” Hobson was involved in a domestic violence situation and he was charged with assault. (In an effort to remain transparent, I would like to let my readers know that in 1997, I was charged, not convicted of aggravated assault, and for the record, the fight involved me and another man.) Somehow, five minutes after sharing this link on my facebook page, Hobson came screeching down Main Street and spotted me sitting in my car and he got out and approached me. At first, I didn’t know what was happening, and finally I rolled down my window. He called me by my name, interesting since I’ve never had any contact with him before, and then he st...

Abuse of Power

Image
Now this blog has really gotten intersting. I just posted a news article that I found while googling police officers from Lumberton. At first, I couldn't believe that I found something on an officer, but then minutes after sharing this information on my facebook page, the officer pulled next to me and actually made threats against me. Then as he was leaving he said that he was contacting his lawyer and would be filing a lawsuit against me for slander. When he first approached my car, he asked do you have any recording devices on? Where do the do that at? Then he went on about what he was going to do and then when he realized that I didn't have my camera, he walked away, got into his car and said that I should record what he just said, but just minutes ealier, he made a point to make sure that I didn't have any recording devices. This all happened just a few minutes ago, and right after submitting this post, I will be contactin the Chief of Police to file my complaint ...
