Review of November 1, 2016 Board Meeting: The Step and Fetch Edition

Image
I attended the meeting tonight for several reasons: to see if they were going to address the letter of complaint I submitted almost a month ago, to see if Step (Tommy Dukes) and Fetch (Cora Rogers) received permission from their massah to address my blog post and to make those in attendance uncomfortable. I guess Tommy and Cora didn't receive their freedom papers because they looked as shackled as ever. I arrived a few minutes late at the city engineer was, as usual, informing the board about applying for more millions more in airport grants so they can continue to improve the airport and get $350/month in rent for an entire airport. The department heads gave their reports. Crider was excited to announce that the increase in water bill rates generated an additional $2,000 last month and could result in an additional $25,000/year. Before they could continue the celebration of fleecing the citizens of Lumberton, they turned around and voted to allow Merlene "T...

The Real House Ni***** of Lumberton: November Edition

Image
If former mayor, Ben Winston didn't teach us anything else; he taught us that anything can be done in Lumberton with three votes. He managed to wrangle three supporters for everything that blocked progress in Lumberton but our community has three representatives on the board and they can't seem to do anything to take control. In other words, we have a set of house ninjas in office waiting on the crumbs from massahas table. We have the majority because the mayor cannot vote, unless there's a tie. So ask yourself what Tommy Dukes and Cora Rogers won't support Quincy Rogers when he vote for or against certain items? For the most part, Quincy is going to do the right thing but the board will fight him every step of the way. Regardless of what the rest of the board members do, he should know that he has the backing of Cora and Tommy but he don't and they're always kicking against the prick. If Quincy was not an honorable, level he...

Can You Stand the Rain?

Image
Just last week, Hurricane Irene ravaged the East Coast, and now Tropical Depression Thirteen is lurking in the Gulf of Mexico. They don't know the exact path of the storm and it could be up graded to a hurricane. Either way, our area will feel the effects of this in climate weather. Just a few months ago, the Lamar County Library Branches donated supplies and offered assistance to the residents of Smithville, MS. The town was devastated by a tornado, but they were prepared because they had a disaster plan in place in case their town was faced with such a tragedy. Is there a disaster plan in place for the City of Lumberton? Are the buildings that are owned by the City of Lumberton properly insured? The Lumberton library has made several changes to their building and is currently in the process of having the kitchen updated? Has anyone checked to see if the insurance on Lumberton Library has been adjusted to cover the new additions and renovations of the building? These are things ...

Here's Your Chance to Shut Down the Informer

Image
Here's your opportunity to do what other's have been threatening to do for the longest--you can shut down this blog. I didn't give in to threats, lawsuits, egging of my car, or even when I was threatened by a police officer, but the one thing that will shut me down is the facts. I have been posting for over a year, and have been called everything except a child of God. Wait a minute, I was called a child of God and then they said I was a hypocrite. Interesting. I've been threatened with being put out of church and the library, but still I rise. Some people say that I've been threaten with banishment because there are so many people that hate me. . since I don't know who most of the anonymous posters are I don't know if that is true or not, but I do know that there are some that support what I do and there are some that don't. . pick a corner and stay there. This blog is not for everyone, you can either like it, lump it or leave it. However, I still don...

Church Folks And Egg Yolks

Image
If either one is pressed too hard, they have a tendcy to run. Should I or shouldn't I talk the news I received. I think I'll leave that matter alone, besides this blog is about politics. I just wonder why is it that when a pastor tells his members to let matters stay within the church walls, it always have a way of seeping out? (S/N: I'm not talking about something that happened at my church. I don't need anymore egg washes for my car.) But this post is not about that, it is about the recall on eggs. Now I know I haven't ticked off enough people to garner an egg recall, but one may never know. Check your local grocery store to see if their eggs were affected by the recall. There have been several cases of somanella poisioning and it has been traced back to the mis-handling of eggs. In case someone else has the unfortunate task of cleaning egg from their car, here are a few tips: If possible, do not allow the egg to sit on the car for an extended period, especia...

Council Members Discuss Budget

Image
There is always a trade off in setting the budget. You can't achieve a 5, 10 or 15 per cent saving by cutting all budgets by the same amount. Some services are so small that if their budgets were cut they would no longer be viable. But some tough decisions need to be made in order for this city to say afloat. The City of Lumberton has no wiggle room, and the only way this city is going to achieve any wiggle room is by making cuts in payroll. To many decisions are being made at City Hall based on personal/emotional attachments. This board is not the first board to make budget cuts a personal issue. Unfortunately, the budget is not personal, it's business. I never had to fire anyone, but anyone seeking election as a concil member must come to terms that their decisions will directly or indirectly affect someone. There was a citizen that wanted the council members to add more fees to the already fee-laden water bill. That's not the answer. The only way the city is goin...

Do Fish and Birds Look Better In Black?

Image
I was watching a documentary on the Discovery Channel and they were talking about the long term effects the oil spill had on the cities in Alaska. The oil spill destroyed their fish population as well as their economy. The oil that leaked into the Gulf of Mexico is predicted to cause far more damage than that done by the Exxon Valdez. It is common knowledge that oil spills are bad for the environment and this point does not really need to be argued. If you’re looking for an explanation of how plankton, algae, jelly fish, dolphins, red snapper, shrimp, and oysters are impacted by this incident I lack that expertise for a detailed explanation (but I’d guess that it's pretty bad.)If you have been imopacted by the oil spill that occured on the coast, you may want to join the class action lawsuit that is being handled by Schwartz and Associates. This lawsuit is inclusive for anyone impacted by the oil spill, even those that no longer can enjoy the benefit of fishing on the Coast. If ...

Kudos Tammi McSwain

Image
This is the second week Tammi and I have crossed paths at the library. So, I asked her about what she was doing and she told me that she wanted to help keep her son academically active during the summer. She had her son and several other children his age, studying and doing reports at the Lumberton library. We all want to relax in the summer, but children can't afford to step away from their studies during the summer months. School will be back in session before you know it, and you want your little ones ready. Take a note from Tammi and keep your child's brain busy and active this summer.

Curfew Ordinance Enforced

Image
The City of Lumberton will be enforcing the city's curfew ordiance. During the summer, there is an increase in juevnile crime/vandalism and it is the responsibility of the parent to ensure that their child is not roaming the street past curfew hours. For those that don't know the defination of a child it is anyone that is under the age of 18. So, if you have a youthful appearance, or is found with a group of minors, do not be surprised when the police ask for your identification. If you want a copy of Lumberton's curfew ordinance, they are available at City Hall. Don't wait until your child is picked up by the police to become familiar with the curfew ordinance, and don't bring your whole family to the board meeting trying to get the police officer fired; they are doing their jobs. Remember that ignorance of the law is not a defense.

Where Are Your Children?

Image
The City of Lumberton will begin enforcing the curfew ordinance that was adpoted February 2009. If you want to know the details of the curfew ordinance, you may obtain a copy at Lumberton's City Hall. Remember that ignorance of the law is not a defense.

2,500

Image
Once the 2010 Census is completed, if there are 2,500 people living in Lumberton, we can get a petition started to change the status of this city. We will have the opportunity to vote on the sale of beer and light wine. Now, people may say that they don't want people drinking beer in their city. Well, if you would drive around Lumberton on garbage day, you will see that beer is being heavily consummed in the City of Lumberton, we're just not benefiting from the sales of beer. I checked the records in Forrest County, and the store we know as "The County Line" paid over $350,000 in sales taxes during the last fiscal quarter to Forrest County. That's just one quarter, and the revenue from the sales is going to Forrest County, but we all know that most of the customers visitng this establishment are from Lumberton. So, before making a rush judgement about what you don't want in your city, ask yourself, do you want the revenue, do you want more jobs, and more ...

Get Your Envelopes Out. . .

It time to address the haters. I am finding it intersting that there is so much to talk about in a town of this size. I stated that if anyone had a problem with what I am saying they knew how to get in contact with me. Well, Bobby Gibson took me up on my challenge. He called to give his side of what was going on, and his responsibility as an elected official. I know I don't have all the answers, and I know that some people may take my statements personally. I will always believe that there are three sides to every story. I thank Mr. Gibson for Manning Up, and calling me out on what was said in my blog. I realized that we may not agree on certain points, but at least he is willing to offer some insight about his actions. I have been accused of being biased towards our District Supervisor, Ben Winston. For the record, I have nothing against Ben Winston. As a matter of fact, when he heard that I graduated from William Carey, he came to my house, offered me some great advice an...

Trailers for Sale, Trailers For Sale

Image
(This picture was taken from the Craigslist Ad.) I found some interesting facts while on Ebay and Craigslist this morning. While on Craigslist, I found that they have been selling those trailers since April 13, 2010. The starting price for the FEMA trailers is $3,950.(To access this information go to www.craigslist.org, in the search craigslist box type trailers and click on enter. This will bring up a result page that list all the trailers for sale. Scroll down and you will see a tab that list Lumberton.) The contact number is 478-808-3894 Wait, it gets better.
