Fifth of July Fireworks

Yesterday was the fourth, but the real fireworks in Lumberton will happen tonight at city hall. Hopefully, they will be able to offer us some clarity on what was reported on WDAM. Last week, Gibson, Crider and Hale decided to terminate Cassandra and Franklin based on the recommendation of Dennis Hobson. I still don't understand how they can terminate anyone based on the recommendation of a interim chief; especially when the actual cheif is still the chief. The news reported that Dennis was selected to serve as interim chief, but after the special called meeting, Bobby Gibson stated that Hobson was promoted to captain; so the board is terminating certified police officers based on the recommendation of the interim chief or captain? Daren Dennis Hobson stated on News 7 that the opposition towards him is based on race. It's not a matter of race, it's a matter of reputation. Dennis Hobson lied on his job application when he applied for work at the City of Lumberton, he was arrested for domestic assault, he has threatened several citizens with brute force, and now sources say that he was also arrested in Meridian for check forgery (I just requested that information from the Lauderdale Sheriff's Office through the freedom of information act so I will give you an update as soon as they send me a copy of the arrest report.) Dennis wants to make this a race issue in an effort to divert attention from his background. If a police officer is willing to lie on a job application, he is willing to lie on a police report. The citizen's displeasure with Hobson is not based on the color of his skin but on the content of his character or lack thereof. I am certain that Chief Fortenberry has some information to support the claims I have made regarding Hobson and it would be in his best interst to correct the statements Hobson made on WDAM.
The meeting should be brief. There are a couple of citizens that want to address the board, and the time spent in executive session should be minimal since the aldermen (Gibson, Crider and Hale) have already made the decision to terminate the employment of Chief Fortenberry. I was pleased to hear that our city clerk, Stephanie Mullings, attended a workshop about the open meetings law while she was at the MML Conference. Hopefully, she was paying attention and will actually inform the board that voting in executive session is a violation of the open meetings law. We shall see!
