Azalea Gardens Grand Opening

Yesterday, South Mississippi Development Home Corporation held the ribbon cutting and open house for Azalea Gardens; and independent senior living facility. I attened the ceremonies and posted some photos on the Lumberton Informer facebook page of the tour. There was a nice crowd of individuals present, including but not limited to a representative from Thad Cochran's office, Steve Palazzo's office, Mayor Winston, J.P. Lawrence, MRHA 8,former Mayor Miriam R. Holder and Alderman,Ward 3, Quincy Rogers. Unfortunately, other elected officals from Lumberton were not present to see the unveiling of the $8.9 million dollar facility. However, it was good to see that Mayor Miriam R. Holder and Alderman Quincy Rogers were present to see the development come to fruition. They were very supportive of the facility and they fought long and hard to ensure the project was located in the City of Lumberton. While at the open house, I met some very lively women that were moving into Azalea Gardens. They are originally from Gulfport and were displaced by Hurricane Katrina. They currently reside in Hattiesburg but they will become residents of Lumberton on December 7, 2013. While speaking with the ladies, they expressed their desire to find a local church family. They also said they were hopeful they could find a church that offers transportation. One is Baptist, one is Methodist and the other is Catholic. So, some of the area churches with a van ministry may want to take provide the property manager with the contact information because there are a lot of people that will be new to the area and some are actively looking for a church home. In case you didn't get the opportunity to attend the open house, there is still an opportunity to visit the property and get a tour. The property is gated and they also have security cameras (something they need to invest in at Frank Lee Homes). There are two gazebos, a water fountain and serveral community rooms. The buildings are equipped with elevators and several seating areas through out the facilty. Truly this is a jewel in the City of Lumberton and kudos to Mayor Miriam R. Holder and Alderman Quincy Rogers for not giving up and fighting to ensure this facility was built in the City of Lumberton.
