Mindless Behavior

Just the other week, Mrs. Kim Rogers addressed the board and was telling them how there's nothing for our children to do and how they're running to trouble. Well, it seems that she's correct. I just heard that there are some teens in Lumberton that has a taser gun in their possession. I know the UNCF said that a mind is a terrible thing to waste, but there are times when I think some minds are just a terrible thing. What are they thinking? It seems that every year, the eratic behavior of these kids seems to escalete. One summer there was this seemingly random home break-ins and then there was the summer when they thought it was "fun" to throw bleach filled water ballons into the open windows of unsuspecting drivers. Now, it seems they have escalated their dangerous minds to an unfathomable degree. Don't they realize the danger of using a taser gun on someone? Police officers are trained to use taser guns, but if someone with a heart/health issue is tazed, it could result in death. Hopefully, this is just a rumor, but from the great amount of details in the story that was relayed to me, I think the person was telling the truth. I just hope noone is seriously harmed whenever these kids decide to weild this weapon like its just a toy. But I must interject regarding the statement that there's nothing for teen to do in Lumberton. The City of Lumberton refurbished the 5th Avenue Park with a huge grant and then there's the Lumberton library; a underuitilized resource. The Lamar County Library System obtained a grant and installed a state of the art Teen Center in Lumberton and Purvis. The Teen Center is equipped with a flat screen television, video games, motion-activated gaming chairs and gaming systems, but most of the teens in Lumberton do not use the Teen Center. It would be helpful if the library was opened on Saturday, but if they're not utilizing the library during the week; chances are they're not going to use it on the weekend. Also, there's a church on every corner and the corner is not changing. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's time to stop scheduling new church programs year after year while neglecting the things going on in the community. The depravity of these children that think it's okay to ride through people's yard on 4-wheelers and to play with a taser gun is a reflection of the lack of parental influence. I seriously doubt that the parents of these children are unaware that their children are using a taser gun as a toy, but if they are, then I can't do anything but wave my hand. This is not a problem that is going to be fixed by the police department; although it would help if they actually caught the 4-wheelers and hit them with a big fine. I'm sure that would get their attention, but back to the subject at hand, if the street committee is telling the truth about a taser gun floating around in the hands of children then I don't know what's gonna be next?

  1. They sure need to open their eyes, cause you can see them all the time. Someone is going to get killed on one of those things. I have yet to see any of the young people on them usually more than one with a safety gear on. And am i wrong in thinking that it is against the law to ride on in Lumberton city.

  2. Maybe if these kids were taught a little bit about work, they could help keep the litter picked up. If some of the responsible adults, who largely complain would get off their duffs and organize activities instead of constantly griping, the kids would have something to do. You spend toomuch time waiting for grants and programs by the government instead of taking some initiative. the Lort helps tbose who help themselves. Don't wait for Massah to do it for you.
