Tick Tock: The Fall of Big Ben
Last night, Ben Winston was fluttering around like a proud peacock because he and Jay McGraw found a way to get a $600,000 CAP loan. According to Winston, the grant was going to be used to address the infrastructure issues in Lumberton and to provide water and sewer services to the annexed areas along Lower Airport Road. Well, Winston was singing another song at the Lamar County Board of Supervisors meeting. Winston allegedly have plans to use the grant to supply water and sewer services to the vacant South Lamar Industrial Park that's currently owned by Lamar County. Winston addressed the Board of Supervisors about the plans and current District 2 Supervisor, Warren Byrd, asked Winston if there was enough money to complete the infrastructure work in the city and the industrial park. Winston's response, allegedly speaking of course, was that he and the Lumberton board thought it would be best to go after a project, a vacant industrial park, that would bring in $100/month instead of a project that's only bringing in $10/month. All this time, Winston has been lying to the citizens, attempting to make us think that he's putting this city into more debt because he's concerned about the infrastructure but the whole project is a game of smoke and mirrors.
I couldn't figure out why they were being so secretive about the grant. At first, I thought he was trying to use the grant for Lake Lumberton, and that could still be the case, but he's gambling with Lumberton's financial future by using a grant on an empty industrial park, allegedly. That's not all, Winston, who said last night that they have the matching funds, allegedly asked the Lamar County Board of Supervisors if they could make a donation towards the matching funds or that he would be back to ask for a donation towatds the matching funds. As an elected official, Winston should know that municipalities are not permitted to make donations. The best part of this house of cards is the fact that Winston's flub was recorded by the news station covering the monthly board meeting. Did Ben think he could keep juggling this lie? Did he think the truth would never surface? Ben knew he was manipulating this grant for political gain and the fact that Jay McGraw and Cora Rogers were going along with this charade makes them co-conspirators. I knew Ben wanted me silenced for a reason and now I know why. You're only sick as your secrets and right about now, Ben Winston's political career is terminally ill. Tune in to your local news tonight to see his explanation. As soon as I receive my copy of the tape, I will post it on the Lumberton Informer YouTube page.
They tried to make it look like you were making things up but what Ben said on the news and what he said on the video you posted are two different stories. Thank you for not giving up. That entire administration and the city clerk owe you an apology. How do they sleep at night knowing they were lying the whole time. Shame on them.
