So. . .Who's The Real Target?

At the latest board meeting, there was another discussion to install a time clock with a video camera attachement. The agenda item was tabled since the board decided to establish a spending freeze for the month of January, but they intend to purchase this expensive equipment in Feburary. One alderman pointed out that the installation of the time clock with the video camera would mean extra security for the city clerk's office. Let me remind you that the city clerk's office is located in the same building as the police department. I know there are some dumb individuals out there, but I don't think they're dumb enough to try rob the city clerk's office when it's located in the same building as the police department. Then again, you never can tell. I never thought someone would be dumb enough to grow marijuana and try to pass it off as a deer food plot, but dumb things happen. So, this continued talk about the installation of a video surveillance camera/time clock is apparently some plan or attempt to catch a city employee not coming to work at their scheduled time or taking longer lunches or breaks. One thing's for certain, they are not installing this camera/time clock for security purposes. At the January meeting, the city clerk informed the aldermen that all the accounts were down and that the tax money probably won't start coming in until February, but that did not make them re-think the idea of spending an unnecessary amount of money for a video camera/time clock. If they were only intersted in the security of having a video camera at city hall, they could go to Sam's Club and purchase a video surveillance system for about $150.00 and it comes with a DVR (digital video recorder) that download the video images and store the information on a hard drive every week, but the wording of the agenda item indicate that the board is acutally trying to keep a certain employee under surveillance, not all the employees of the City of Lumberton.
I find it amazing that they are so eager to spend money on a video camera/timeclock, but they are not intersted in fulfilling the recommendations that were set forth in the audit report that was submitted to the City of Lumberton. The report stated that there needs to be a check and balance in place regarding the financial records of the city. About two months ago, Alderman Rogers asked the board the hire Willie Sims to handle this aspect of the auditor's recommendation. Alderman Johnson asked to table the matter in order to get quotes from other accountants; since no more quotes were submitted, Alderman Rogers had the motion placed back on the agenda, but this time the motion died for a lack of a second. Now, they are locked and loaded with the idea of installing a video camera/time clock, but they sat there and would allow a vote on fulfilling the recommendation of the audit that was performed for the City of Lumberton. Now keep in mind that the City of Lumberton is about to pay for another compilation audit and it will cost $22,000 for this auditor to come in a review the grants and records presented by the city clerk (this is not a full audit) and this auditor will give her recommendations again, but chances are, they are not going to adhere to those recommendations either because it is more important to install a time clock with a video camera attachement.

  1. Installing a video camera on the time clock is not going to prevent workers from abusing the system. There is a worker in the public works department that parks behind the baseball field over at Wood Hinton Park on a daily basis and I'm sure he's on the clock while he's over there taking a nap. Do you know who I'm talking about, if not, here's another hint: he couldn't take his scheduled vacation last year b/c he had a severe case of the blue balls. Now what are you aldermen going to do bout that?

  2. Are they tring to say that the chief is not working all his hours? Don't the chief come in throughout the day or whenever he's needed; is there any record of that. I just don't know about this city and what it's going to take to get it back in line. When we finally get a good group of officers, the ppl of this town try and drag them through the mud. I don't like all the officers, but I'm glad they're here and I wish they would start hauling some of your bad ass kids off to jail and really give you something to talk about. Better yet, I wish they would catch Bobby and Earl coming back from Bogulasa on one of their beer runs, now that would be something for Lumberton Informer. But why is there always complaints about the police doing their job. I guess you all want Rita back ( I don't call her Lady Blue b/c I never thought she was much of a lady) or do you want Jameison back, you remember him, the one that hired the real crooked cops (Hill) and the rapist (Gray) to serve in his department to cover up the fact that he was married to several women. Ooooo, I know, you want the DL, FEMA fraud committing chief Hammond back--everybody know that him and a very well know individual in Lumberton were sex buddies or should I say booty buddies. You guys better appreciate a good police chief while you have him.

  3. I think if you have to post a security camera to catch dishonest employees then it is time to hire some honest ones and get rid of the ones that don't want to work. All I ever see city workers doing is riding around in their trucks.
