Thieves In The Temple

To your right is a photo of a pitot gauge. It is used to measure the velocity of water pressure. In other words, it's used by firefighters to test the water pressure of fire hydrants; letting them know if the hydrant is in working condition. At Tuesday night's board meeting, it was revealed that the pitot gauge, six chain saws and a generator has been missing from the fire department since April of 2010. These items went missing around the same time there was a change in personnel at the fire department. There was some discussion as to what steps to take to recover the missing items, but it seems that the matter may lead to a criminal investigation since many of the items that are listed as missing were purchased with FEMA grant money. No one said that the former fire chief, Johnny Grant, had removed the items, but since he was fire chief, he is ultimately responsible for the missing items, since it was his responsibility to secure the items prior to the transfer of the building to another fire chief. An aldermen suggested that the fire department personnel talk with George Stevens about the missing items and they seemed reluctant to do so. Also, one of the members of the department stated that they were told that the missing items were in a former fire fighter's home. If this is the case, then a police report needs to be filed and this person's home should be searched for the missing items. I guess the members of the fire department will follow the proper procedures to help recover the missing items, but in the mean time, it is hopeful that they will be able to get assistance from a neighboring department to aide them in securing a pitot gauge because it is crucial that they test the fire hydrants.
