Police Certification Ends June 30, 2011

At last week's board meeting, the board failed to approve training for the Lumberton Police Department. All year, the board of aldermen delayed training for the police department. Now it's crunch time and the board has failed to approve Chief Fortenberry's request for certification training for his police officers. They did, however, approve funding for the ammunition needed for the training, but failed to approve the time needed for the training. I respect and admire Chief Fortenberry, but there are times that I wish he would just go slap off on the board and let the dust settle where it may, but I guess that's not the behavior I should expect of a department head. WTBS, after the board approved to pay over $600 for non-mandatory training for the city clerk, approved a $2.00/hour pay raise for Susan Guidry, approved the hiring of an additional grass cutter for the public works department at a rate of $8.50 hour and also approved to restore all pay cuts that were made in the public works department, I would have told the every last member of the board to suck my left gonad ( but that could back-fire since at least two members of the board would have probably took him up on the offer.) Chief Fortenberry might as well talk rough to them; at least they will have a reason for wanting to fire him. The officers in the Lumberton Police Department will loose their certification on June 30, 2011. They will no longer be able to perform any duties of a police officer. For those of you that don't remember, Officer Wiley had to leave the Lumberton Police Department because the board wouldn't allow him to get training for re-certification and now he's working with the Hattiesburg Police Department. I don't think the people of this city realizes the seriousness of this matter. If the board fails to approve the hours needed for officer training; the City of Lumberton will not have any certified officers on June 30, 2011. If you thought crime is on the rise now, just wait until the police officers are no longer permitted to work.
