Dog Eat Dog City

At the last board meeting the board voted to terminate Harold Williamson. Some people in the audience didn't know who he was and what type of work he performed in the public works department. The best way I could think of to describe his duties was to refer to him as the public works department mascot because he rarely moved from the side of Roy Easley. .I guess he could be better described as Roy's ride or die chick. But this post is not about Harold, but about the statement made regarding the board's attempt to give Roy Easley another pay raise. In case you didn't know, the other employees of the public works department have only seen a fifty cent raise over the last five years, but Hale was upset that Roy Easley wasn't given another raise since the board budgeted for Roy to receive another raise, while the other workers are stuck struggling to support their families on a raise that amounts to about ten cents per year over the last five years. Instead of focusing on doing something for those that are actually inhaling the fumes of rotting trash, working outside in the cold, the rain and the heat of day, the board is just focused on granting another raise to the person that does the most driving and that's why Lumberton is a dog eat dog city. It's a dog-eat-dog city means that you must first watch out for your own interests, because other people will be watching out for theirs. I don't think they realize how many perks they've given Roy and they're continually trying to reward him for work that he's not capable of doing. Roy has a take home truck, he has his own fuel man card, he's the only public works employee that receives over time because he's given four hours every weekend to perform a job that might take 30 minutes, and when he didn't know how/where the pipes were located, the board brought Albert Georgia, Jr. back from retirement to show Roy where certain lines are located and Roy also has a city-paid cell phone. Now, add up those perks. In addition to all of these perks, Roy has also been enjoying the benefit of allegedly not paying his water bill. Ben Barrett said that there were some employees that were not paying their water bills and I'm almost certain that it wasn't any of the other public works employees, otherwise, he would have been more than willing to name names, but since it was one of the "top dogs" he didn't want to out one of his boys.
OAN. . .WDAM ran a story about the house located in the 700 block of 1oth Avenue where the homeowner has at least 40 dogs. The story was posted February 6, 2012, more than enough time for something to be added to the agenda if the board wanted to address the dog hoarding allegations, but nothing was listed on the agenda regarding the news report. It's no surprise that this house is located in Rebecca Hale's ward. But what may be even more surprising is that the woman that has all of the dogs readily supplies one of our deputy clerks with 40 and 80 lb. sacks of dog food and doggie treats. WDAM reported that Lydia Sattler from the Humane Society of the United States says the city has to take the first step before they can go in and remove the dogs from the property. Well, since the woman has a connection with the workers at city hall, I seriously doubt that Hale will actually step in and ask for anything to be done regarding the dogs because it would be a conflict of interest for one of her close friend and deputy clerk. So for now, I guess the dog food/doggie treats will remained stored in the clerk's office.

  1. Roy definately is enjoying the perks of overtime because every Sunday he is at Ramey's in the city truck shopping for cigarettes and bread and he's getting paid overtime to do his personal shopping?

As long as she takes care of them @herself! That's wat matters. That's ridiculous there are plenty of places in lumberton that are worse than having a few dogs!! @as far as Roy I wish I could get paid for riding around all day!!!
