Order Please!
I'm still fuming from the comment that came after one very outspoken citizen (Sylvia aka Momma) kept giving her input during the board meeting. Alderman Gibson said that the meeting was not "descent and in order." Was anyone paying attention to Alderman Timothy Johnson and Alderwoman Rebecca Hale during the board meeting? Throughout the meeting, Tim and Rebecca were acting like it was their date night rather than a board meeting. They were huddled shoulder to shoulder in their chairs, hiding their faces behind the pages of the agenda, Tim whispering something to Rebecca, and Rebecca giggling and twirling her hair like an infatuated school girl. This scene took place while citizens were making comments, during the presentations by the department heads, and while the mayor was providing information on various agenda items. Apparently, this type of behavior is fine, but when citizens responded to the votes of the aldermen, the meeting was considered, by some, chaotic. Also, I am still trying to get some closure regarding the board's decision not to hire Daniel Wilczek. No one is coming forth about their reasons for not hiring a man that paid his own fees to attend the academy. While thinking about the matter, I began to remember something that might have caused one board member to vote against Daniel. If memory serves me correctly, Alderman Roger's son once dated Sheila Willis, who is now the fiancé of Daniel Wilczek. I hope his vote was not based on personal issues, but on a legitimate reason, but I don't know what a legitimate reason would be. Please remember that this is only a speculation on my part since I haven't heard anyone say why they refused to hire Daniel. So, I am left to speculate on the situation. Now you know I would never make an assumption because we all know what happens when one makes an assumption. If Quincy does not approve of certain prepared documents, I can see why he would vote no. But to not vote for an officer that would help put the salaries of the police officers back in line with their budget is not acceptable behavior. The aldermen see the numbers every month. I just reviewed the salaries for the last month, and I found the amount of money being paid in that department staggering. I will be glad when we truly get people in office that are there for the city and not there for their own self-serving political agendas.
You are right Jonathan. Although it may be speculation, there just might be truth to your theory. I for one, cannot for the life of me see why Mr. Rogers voted against Daniel. This is so out of character for Quincy, because he is usually about the only one that keeps a level head up there. It's like you leave scratching your head wondering what the h#*% just happened. I am still shocked that Quincy went against voting for Daniel.
ReplyDeleteDaniel is a citizen of Lumberton, a hometown boy. We all want him to represent us. Who in their right mind would rather be stopped by a stranger than someone they at least know of.
Stay on the board's back Jonathan and keep us informed.
Before Aaron Lott and Paul Ockmond became known as the great puppet masters, there was another group that realized their political potential: Tabernacle Baptist Church. Before Cannaday, Rogers, and Holder were elected you better believe that they sat down at bible class and realized that they were in a prime location to win three seats in Lumberton. Their church membership covers Wards 3-4 and they got the backing of their church members. That's why Quincy does not care about how he votes, because he knows that regardless of what he do, Tabernacle will support him. His members don't attend meetings, his votes don't directly affect them, and they are motivated by church affiliation and not what's best for the city.
