Shift Happens

With the new board, we saw a shift in power, but I don't think this is the type of change we were hoping for. Three black aldermen voted against hiring a white police officer. Alderman Bobby Gibson, Alderman Timothy Johnson, and Alderman Quincy Rogers(aka the new Terry Cannaday since his vote is generally no on almost every issue). If the tables had been turned and it was three white aldermen voting against a black officer there would have been utter chaos. There was no reason for not hiring Daniel to serve as a certified police officer. First and foremost, he paid his own fees to go to the police academy. Generally, officer would come to Lumberton as non-certified officers and then the City of Lumberton would pay their academy fees, and once they graduate, they would leave the City of Lumberton for another law enforcement agency. Second of all, he lives in Lumberton, and third of all, with the hiring of Daniel, the Lumberton Police Department would be able to go back to 8 hour shift. Currently, the City of Lumberton is paying officers $800-1,200 a week on the 12 hour shifts. The choice was a simple one. I think Lumberton's meter readers could have even done the math on this one. 1. AMEN BROTHER!!!!
Somebody needs to put the board on the Board.
How stupid can a group of adults be, no wonder our town is dying.
You just paid to send someone to the academy who should not have been there in the first place, then you refuse to hire someone that you didnt have to spend a penny on. Evidently, they must have went to the same school of training, you probably should have left the one and gotten the other.
And where are the white people, because like you said, if this situation was reversed, black people would have bombarded city hall by now. And we all know this. The white people should have signs out and marching and protesting to high heavens. And anyway, the very folks that voted against this young man; you can find them in church Sunday, praying and teaching about fairness and forgiveness and wwjd, but their hearts are far from it.
Shame on the board, especially the "christian" leaders for not doing the right thing.
By the way, WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?
I believe He would come in and clean house (remember the scripture where He threw the money changers out the temple).
And the cleaning should start at the top and work its way through, (bleach out all the crooked stains in between, hang some laundry out to dry for all to see, run out some critters and stealers, mop that place clean of petty personal issues that keep tracking mud on any type of progress, finally open the doors and windows and let all those EGOS out.
You guys allow someone to bring a bunch of faulty trailors and park them in front of churches, etc., but you darn near run out of town hard working men that need to park their rigs in their front yard (remember).
Get real; Get some backbone; Get the job done!
Your're cutting off your nose to spite your face. Why not hire this young man, and get rid of some other dead weights. I believe he would do a good job, besides first impressions are always your best impressions. And I believe he made a good one last night, showing up in his professional dress clothes.

  2. I totally agree. I was so confident that Daniel was going to be hired that I told him I was glad that we were finally getting an officer from Lumberton at the Lumberton Police Department. I was shocked by the decision that these bible toting, scripture quoting individuals made. I think Quincy is not standing up for the citizens of his ward or for this city. I don't understand why a person would continue to vote no on almost every agenda item, and Timothy Johnson feels it is necessary to give a diatribe on every agenda item while Bobby Gibson is being the snake he has always been, but they don't want citizens to voice their concerns. The members of the board have a copy of the agenda a week in advance, while the voting public can only get a copy a few minutes before the meeting. So there are going to be moans and groans from the audience because we are still trying to wrap our brains around the agenda. But elected officials shouldn't have a problem hearing from those that elected them to serve. I also believe that too many of the white voters are afraid to call a spade a spade. The actions of the black members of the board was reprehensible, and their actions should be brought to light. They did not want to hire a qualified officer and they owe it to the voting public to give a legitimate reason why!

  3. You're right.
They sit on their high horses and talk about certified and qualified individuals.
They call everybody else racists and doing what is right. Mayor Holder quoting scriptures.
    WHAT IS THE BOARD DOING!
So busy talking about Strahan and his tactics, that they are doing the same thing. Rough shodding over the citizens and their right to speak, while making idiotic decisions themselves. Qualified and certified was staring you in your face Tuesday night and all you can see is ?. I don't even have a word for it, cause evidently you see differently from the top of the mountain. We see the same old stuff, just a different day.

  4. SSDD = Same Sh**. Differnt Day is what is it really called but no one in power is willing to change the texture of the Sh**, they just let it run. I thought when we hired our new mayor and elected a new young fresh alderman something would change but it didn't. Daniel should not have been denied employment but I guess somebody woke up and did the right thing becasue now I see him doing his job and I am glad.
