Politician or Pharoh
Recently, the Pearl River Board of Supervisors had to make some serious cuts in their budget and they cut $50,000 from the budget of the library and all government employees, must take a furlough of one day every other week. It was said that in tough times, tough decisions must be made. At this moment, the Lamar County Board of Supervisors haven't completed work on their new budget. Hopefully, the cuts made in support to the Pat Harrison Water Way District will help them in the services they provide to the citizens of Lamar County. It's not certain if they are going to make any cuts to the Lamar County Library, but it is a possibility. In this day and age, it seems that politicians seem to think they can force departments to make brick without straw. There has been a barrage of news reports about the proposed one cent tax increase in Pearl River County. It seems that city, county, state and federal agencies think they can raise revenue without raising taxes. Sorry, but it's not going to happen. The City of Lumberton is currently working on their budget. I don't know why because the never adhere to the budget in the first place. There are some on the board that are patting themselves on the back and telling people that there hasn't been a millage rate since they took office, but on the other side of that coin, water bill prices are sky high. At this point, we still do not have a viable contract with Gold Coast, we currently have too many clerks and not enough police officers/cars. And to top it off, we're a city without a chief because of a political agenda.
