Special Election: Ward 2
There is a special election being held today to fill the position vacated by Rebecca Hale. The residents of Ward 2 will vote to select a new representative. They will be choosing between Deborah Gallagher and Jay McGraw. It is rare to have two well-loved, well-respected individuals running for the same position. It's going to be a tough choice for the residents of Ward 2 because both of the candidates will be a welcomed addition to this administration. Good luck and regardless of who wins, it seems that Ward 2 will have a winner representing them at the next board meeting. Hopefully, the winner of this special election won't change after taking the oath of office or at least remember the oath while voting on issues of the city.
Forty three of the over two hundred registered voters participated in yesterday's special call election. Hugh James "Jay" McGraw Jr. will be seated as Lumberton's Anderman of Ward 2. McGraw won by seven votes; defeating Deborah Gallagher 25-18. He will be sworn in this week and will attend his first meeting as an elected official on Tuesday, July 3, 2012.
