Game Changer....Revised
Today's post was really gonna cut deep, but thankfully, I typed the post, put it on the shelf and decided to re-read the post before publishing it. The post helped me get out some things I wanted to say, but I didn't think publishing the post would have been good; especially prior to election. I must keep in mind, I am seeking election this go around and I don't want to say/do anything that could be used as fodder to use against another candidate. So, since I plan on working with the Mayor for the next four years, I will refrain from publically airing our differences. For me, that's a little bit of growth. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not going to water down my responsibility to those I plan on representing but I will keep in mind that I cannot unring a bell. At this point, it is moot if Mayor Holder was calling me a liar or not in her response to my status update. As long as I know that the information I posted was information I received from city hall, I'm satisfied.
So, I hate to disappoint those that thought they were going to get some new water cooler talk today. I have come to the realization that I must make some adjustments in how I dispense my writings. As one reader stated, the power of life and death does lie within our tongue. WTBS, I will not capitulate to those that feel I shouldn't speak the truth of what's taking place in Lumberton. I am well aware that the City of Lumberton is a microcosm of what's taking place in our county, but the level of disarray that's taking place in Lumberton must end. I cannot wrap my head around the fact that we have elected officials that are willing to launch personal attacks on citizens, via the Lumberton Police Department, just because of a blog. I cannot deal with the fact that ministers want to put people out of church just because they are fearful of losing other members. (You know the leave the one to chase the 99 ministry.) I don't think it was the teaching of Jesus, but hey, when you're more concerned about finance than fellowship; then one will adjsut the word to their own benefits. Well, enough of that.
Please note, I am still researching an issue and it may involve a candidate and once I have the details needed to prove my theory, I am going to publish the post. I have been on calls with the VP of Hudson's and I found out that they were leasing the Dirt Cheap building in Lumberton and so far, it seems that the lease owner raised the rental fee and that's the reason why the packed up and left Lumberton. Now, the VP hasn't been forthcoming with the details of who owned the building but thankfully, it's public record. So, when I gather the remaining details, I will most definately publish the results because if a person running for office had a hand in shutting down Dirt Cheap, how in the Hattiesburg are they going to make any meaninful changes in Lumberton.
Also, there has been talk of candidates making promises and not keeping them. Well, I would like to go on record and say that I am not making any promises as a political candidate. However, I will assure you that I will remain as transparent as I have on this blog. I will hold all departments accountable, and vote for raises where they are needed and anyone refusing to get certified, will not have 8 years of making excuses. I may not have the support to get them terminated, but I will make it a point to put their name on every agenda. I'm not a backroom deal maker. I'm aware that certain things need to be held in executive session, but I do not have any tolerance for any elected official that have not reviewed their packets. Now is the time for new leadership. It's time to step away from the status quo and shake up the system so Lumberton can grow. If we are going to grow, now is the time for leadership that measures and balances the needs of every neighborhood, of every person. I am fully aware that elect officials that will end, once and for all time, a culture that fails to uncover scandal or prevent gross misconduct within City Hall. This is where I have lived my life and followed my family's tradition of community-based public service. I know what this city is, I know what it has been, and I know what it can still become. Let's work to move Lumberton forward.
