Enough Is Enough

What a difference a week makes? Just the other week, News 7 offered a flash in the pan news story about the millions of dollars that's being spent on the renovation of Frank Lee Homes. Fast forward to last night, and they ran a story at six and again at ten about the rise in crime throughout the City of Lumberton and guess what area was the focus of the story--you got it Frank Lee Homes. There was also an interview with Chief Fortenberry and he detailed some steps he's taking to eradicate some of the criminal elements that's taking place in the City of Lumberton. He commended the board for hiring some additional officers and plans to hire another officer and with the way things are going; they are going to need as much help as they can get. I am still on the fence when it comes to how things are conducted at the Lumberton Police Department. I don't understand how information in sworn statements become fodder for conversation or how individuals that are being served with an arrest warrant have knowledge of the warrant before it's even served. On the surface it may seem like the board is working with the chief to address the crimes that's taking place in our city, but as we all know, there is always more than meets the eye. The board hired new officers, but then they sit back and go over the police department's Fuelman account with a microscope and a fine tooth comb. How can you patrol when the board don't want you to spend any money on gas? This board routinely interfers with the day to day operations of the police department and scrutinizes every decision made by Chief Fortenberry, but they won't dare use that same zeal to review the detailed trail balance. Interesting? I just hope politics don't cause someone to loose their life because the board wants to micro-manage the police department. The weather is just changing and from all indications. . it's going to be a long, hot summer. Chief Fortenberry stated that he's going to batten down the hatches. . but will the board allow him to do so?

Bout time somebody got tired of the crime in Lumberton. The arson on my daddy's house was never solved nor the attempted arson on my house X's 3, nor the several breakends and burglary on my house. I know for one, I was sick and tired of it along time ago.

  2. Everytime a police officer try to do his/her job they become the target of the board. The chief says that the board is supporting him but wait til they pull over that boy that's always speeding with LB II on his tag. I think it stands for little boy, but that can't be right, cause he's a grown azz man. But he do like little girls, but there's a lot of that going on in Lumberton. Besides, he gets it from his daddy. Yes, Mr. Informer, it's going to be a long hot summer and as soon as one of the board member has a family member put in jail, its gonna hit the fan.

  3. Jonathan, was anything ever done about the officer that threatened you? Was there an investigation, or a follow-up to your complaint? Inquiring minds want to know!

  4. As a person that lives in Frank Lee homes, I did not like how the story was protrayed on the news. Whenever a fight break out over here, it's usually the result of something that happened in another part of the city. Until the people that live here make a decision to stop allowing outsiders from using this area as their dumping ground, things will never change. But there are so many over here that like the drama, like the fights, like the loud music and disruptive behavior because their child is usually invovled in bringing that element onto the property. We have a manager that like to hang out and gossip with tenants about other tenants, the police don't like to repsond to calls to this area and I really don't blame them. There's one girl that had block parties all the time and now she's on front street, and she has a neighbor that ain't gonna deal with that type of mess, so this should be intersting. They can spend billions of dollars to renovate these apartments, but until you change the mindset of the residents, it's a waste of money.

There was never an investigation into the complaint I filed against Hobson. I've tried to get the matter addressed, but no one seems to be interested. The board is pretty much happy it happened so they're not going to investigate the matter. The chief's hands are tied so he's gone as far a he could regarding the matter. I have decided to let the matter go, but I will be ready when he decides to strike again. Thanks for asking.
