I haven't blogged much about the Lumberton High School Football team this year but it seems that every time I pick up a newspaper I see the name Dre Coleman. Based on everything I've seen and heard, this young man is a stellar athlete on and off the field. I was looking at his stats after the game against Nanih Waiya, and Coleman is credited for rushing for over 300 yards and three touchdowns; it's clear that his athletic prowess helped Lumberton cinch their victory has earned them a spot in the state championship. Friday's game went into overtime and it was a nail bitter. I know this week is exiting for everyone in Lumberton; especially the players and coaching staff. At the beginning of the season, there were doubts about the Lumberton Panthers football season because they're a young team and they have a sophomore quarterback but they have proven that they're a force to be reckoned with and they want to bring back another state championship trop...

Senior Dinner 2015

To honor the graduating Class of 2015, several parents are organizing a senior dinner for Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the Ben Barrett Community Center at 6:00 p.m. If there are any parents of the graduating class that would like to participate, please call Audrey Davis, Kimberly Chavis, Alicia Young or Andreas Arnold for more details. If you don’t have their telephone numbers, you can contact them via Facebook. Time is winding down and they're moving swiftly with preparations for this event. If you are interested in participating, please respond by April 10, 2015. Parents are asked to help cover the expenses ( this includes decorations, gift bags, ideas, etc.) and help with the preparation of the food. We would like to make this event special and memorable for our kids. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and participation.

We Are Lumberton!

Yesterday, the special called meeting was canceled due to a lack of a quorum. I wanted to know what Mayor Winston intended with the order to designate Lumberton as a hub. I also wanted to speak with Winston to get more insight about his recent actions and to offer him the opportunity to give a statement that would help exculpate the image engrained in the minds of tbe citizens that viewed his plea at the Lamar County Board of Supervisors meeting. Unfortunately, we will have to wait and see if he has an explanation for his actions. At this point, we have no idea where things stand. We're in the season of giving and Winston is still focused on taking. I can't emphasize this enough. We need our police department. A few weeks ago, I sarcastically reported that a yoing man helped a woman load groceries into her car. A reader responded and said that's what she liked about Lumberton. She also expressed the joy she felt when a woman prayed for her mother in the parking lot of t...

Are You Ready for Some Football? The Lumberton Panthers Are

Image
Last night, at the Lamar County Jamboree, the Lumberton Panthers gave fans a preview of the upcoming season with their 22-0 victory over Sumrall. Lumberton got scores on a 30-yard pass from quarterback Joe Arnold to Javier Chavis, a 60-yard run by Ben McSwain and a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Daylon Burks. Blake Ford ran a pair of PATs to complete the scoring. "We've got eight key guys who have all played together since seventh grade," Ford said. "They've won every year and played a lot of football together, and we can see that carrying over into this season." It looks like a very promising season for the Panthers. The season.opener will be August 29, 2014 with a home game against West Marion. Come out and show your support. For more details about the players and for score updates, go like the Lumberton Football Facebook page.
