Bluffing Game. . Lumberton Style
It seems that our city is sitting at the table of a legal pissing match. The un-offical city attorney, Lindsey Carter is up against Kim Chaze, attorney for city clerk, Stephanie C. Mullings. Carter became well known after his case for the Dahmer trail received national attention. Chaze is moslty known for his lawsuits against USM, and most recently, his case against the City of Hattieburg, when Judge Vanessa Jones tried to play the race card and say her termination was racially motiviated. Needless to say, her Johnny Cochran/Kim Chaz approach to hold onto her position as a Hattiesbug municipal judge did not work. She was still terminated and replaced. Now, it seems that Chaz has the City of Lumberton cowering at his threats of leagal represenation since he has been retained by the city clerk. One thing is for certain, Chaz only has the word of his client and we know she's not telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I said it before and I will say it again, Carter does not want to do anything that requires any work. First of all, he's an attorney, and he feel that the amount of work he's putting in for the City of Lumberton is not matching the amount of pay he's receiving. Nevertheless, he's on the payroll and it's time to roll up his sleeves and to some of the work he's been claiming to do for the last few years. So, we're at a legal stand off. A game of legalized Texas Hold Em. But both sides are bluffing, but Lumberton's Board of Aldermen know this is an at-will state and I don't know why they have their thumbs up their (bleeps), but it's either time to (bleep) or get off the pot. I understand them wanting to dot their i's and cross their t's but if the City of Lumberton has to pay for an investigation, I want them to pursue criminal charges if there's any record of impropriety. They can put an end to this now or they can drag it along. Rest assured, we will eventually get a board in office that's not afraid to do their job.
This board has terminated people at the drop of a dime and without any proof. However, for some reason, they're eering on the side of caution when it comes to putting an end to the lack of accountability at city hall. Also, why is it so difficult to get the city's laptop back into the office. If an person is being investigated, why are they allowed to keep an essential part of the investigation? What's so hard about drawing up an order and having Chief Elsie Cowart and another officer go get the city's laptop? I'm sure if Chief Cowart could go to Hobson's home and get the city's gun and other equipment, taking back a computer should be a piece of cake. But it all boils down to the principle of the matter. For now, we must endure this bluffing game because as illustrated in the picture, a pair of balls beats everything and it's obvious that there a serious lack of testerone serving on Lumberton's Board of Aldermen.
