Jumping The Gun

Yesterday, there was a notice published for a Special Called Meeting. The notice stated that it was to deal with personnel issues in the police department. Naturally, I began to wonder about the personnel issue they wanted to address. The regularly scheduled meeting is less than a week away, why are they in such a rush to take action against something or someone in the police department? Are they trying to terminate another officer? Did they realize that the deadline for their response to the EEOC charge was Monday, September 27, 2010. At this point, I really don't know what is going on in the minds of our elected officials, namely Johnson, Gibson and Crider. I am certain they are not attempting to terminate Captain Franklin before the conclusion of a State investigation. Wait a minute. . .I almost forgot where I was living. Of course Lumberton's elected officals would jump the gun and vote to terminate an officer before receiving a report on the progress of the investigation. Maybe I'm jumping the gun, the meeting might have been about the EEOC charge filed against the City of Lumberton. I know they were supposed to respond to the complaint, but I don't know who was responsible for responding to the charge since we have an on again off again relationship with our city attorney. I know the board of aldermen think we have a city attorney b/c they ALL said they had no problem allowing L. Carter to serve until a new attorney is hired. Unfortunately, a verbal agreement does not override a mayor's veto. Essentially, our city is without legal counsel. I could continue to speculate on this matter, but since there is another Special Called meeting scheduled for 6:00 p.m. tonight, I will find out what's going on at city hall. OAN, I was wondering if the patrol car that was involved in thetraffic accident last week was totaled? Once the City of Lumberton receives the insurance check, I think they should invest in the purchase of new Dodge Charger patrol car.

  1. Johnson, Gibson and Crider. That sounds like a law firm or in their case, a law-less firm. You can use that one for a later blog.
