Budget Busters

People like to quote Hosea 4:6, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. . ." Often times, they don't complete the scripture will goes on to say that "Because you have rejected knowledge." I have been blogging about the budget for a few weeks now. I guess we will see if my post have fallen on deaf ears. The Mayor and Board of Aldermen will meet on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. to have a budget workshop. I am just wondering what cuts will be made. I remember a time when there were two people working in City Hall; now we have at least five indivduals on staff during the day at City Hall. This city is not generating enough revenue to have thant many people on staff during the day, and this city is not generating enough money to have a full crew in the Public Works Department all year long. It's time to make some serious cuts and the time is now. So many people sit back and want to place all of the blame on the Mayor, but the decisions to hire or fire anyone is made by the Board of Aldermen. So, it is up to them to make the cuts needed to balance Lumberton's budget. In addition to having an excessive amount of individuals on the payroll, there are certain bonds and loans that must be calculated when making out the budget. The 1979 water and sewer bond repayment for FY 2011 will be $19,522 plus $2,978 in interst. This is proof that decisions made by the board has the ability to have a ripple effect years to come. Also, for the FY 2011 the payment for the state revolving loan fund is $153,818 plus $34,087 in interest; there is the FY 2011 CAP loan which is $7,344 and an additional $$2,962 in interest; the fire pumper truck note for FY 2011 is $9,024 and an additional $1,299 in interest payment, and the dump truck lease puchase for 2011 is $11,027 with and additional $$1,332 in interst. All of these accounts must be included in the FY 2011 budget. Like I stated, it is time for some tough decisions to be made. Let's just hope they are willing to make these decisions. We shall see.

  1. It amazes me that someone of your age and level of education has the time to focus on the city of Lumberton to this level. Do you have a job? Maybe someone should investigate your living arrangements. People of your age and education should be working and paying taxes. Maybe you should channel some of this energy into finding a job and less on the the employees of city hall. Maybe your obsession on this matter is due to the fact that you have applied for jobs at city hall and never hired. After reading some of your blogs, one statement is true that you made....the mayor cannot fire our city clerk or any other employee for that matter. Our mayor needs to realize that she is no longer in the classroom with innocent children to punish. Most of her former students, including myself, are well aware of her punishment and attitude in the classroom. Makes one question her role as mayor. Some advice, you may want to make sure your inside snoop gets HER facts straight before you blog what you've been told. Stop obsessing with this matter and get a life!

  2. "Make sure your inside snoop gets HER facts straight before you blog what you've been told" Wow, you must be a genius, since everyone that works in the offices of City Hall are females. Well, I could be wrong, that deep Marge Simpson voice of Smokestack Sue does remind me of a character from Too Wong Fu; is she hiding her candy along with the water bills for business owners?

  3. John all I can say to you is keep posting and the truth will always win in the long run. Remember the devil is busy the most when the break is coming. They talk about you my mom and others but don't have the courage to show themselves. John you keep posting what you want and my mom will continue to fight for what's right and the board.

  6. There are a lot of fine black people who do work for a living and pay taxes. But, you are right, most blacks don't worry about working and paying taxes. (Also some white people.) They only want to live off the government, or should I say us to do pay taxes. By the way, I wish you would do something about the vulgar language that is posted on here from time to time. A point can be made without this kind of language. It is very offensive to a lot of people, inlcuding me.
