To Serve and To Protect

Despite what you may think of Chief Adrien Fortenberry, he is, without a doubt, a man of integrity. I’ve noticed that several comments have been aimed at his lack of public support for the police department. In all fairness, it was not necessary for Chief Fortenberry to go on WDAM to voice his displeasure with the budget cuts that were made to his department. Chief Fortenberry did not need to fight for his officers in the court of public opinion. Chief Fortenberry went to task for his officers in the only arena that mattered, the City of Lumberton’s board room. During his tenure as Lumberton’s Chief of Police, Adrien has managed to secure a reliable group of certified officers. Under his leadership, the Lumberton Police Department has flourished. Adrien transformed the Lumberton Police Department into a place to stay rather than having a revolving door of men and women that only used this city as a springboard for their entrance into law enforcement. In case you missed the report in the Hattiesburg American, Chief Fortenberry was the only department head that volunteered for a reduction in pay to help his fellow officers. Somehow, the residents of Lumberton seem to think that he needs to be in the public spotlight in order to be an effective leader. I think Chief Fortenberry is doing an excellent job and it is his silence that gives him strength. He does not find it necessary to be in the lime light in order to serve the citizens of Lumberton and to offer effective leadership for his department. We do not always see all the sacrifices he make for this city and his department, but rest assured he is going above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to serving and protecting the residents of Lumberton. Chief Fortenberry has the strength to protect others as well as the strength of spirit to effectively lead his department. Chief Fortenberry has the dedication needed to perform his job and he is dedicated to keeping his officers and the City of Lumberton safe. We have a chief that is concerned about this city, and the people that call Lumberton home. Chief Fortenberry has the courage, compassion and concern needed to serve. The position of Chief of Police is the most powerful and possibly the most stressful department head position in any city. But with the right person, it is the best position for defending the rights of the residents of Lumberton. Adrien Fortenberry is a strong advocate for his officers and believes that law enforcement officials should live up to their oath of office and not be swayed by fleeting moments. Adrien Fortenberry... has proven that he will stand up for what's right no matter the consequences.

  3. I wish we had this much fighting over these stores closing shop in this town. Who care about these police and their office problems. Somebody needs to rag the Fema trailor man like they do the Chief, the Captain, and other officers. They are trying to do their job, or it seems that way. But this man is parking these posionous trailors all over the place and everybody seems to fear him. What is up with this?

  4. For all who think they know the business, for all you anonymous smart people. I am Officer E. Fortenberry. First of all, Chief Maurice Hammond put me before the board to be hired, the "Board of Aldermen" hired me December 05, 2006. Not my brother... Chief Maurice Hammond sent me to SRPSI(police academy)..... Not my brother.... Unfortunately I was ill and could not finish the academy then, BUT I still did not quit, and as a result I was given an extention.... Unfortunately things happened to Chief Hammond and the "Board of Alderman" hired Adrien Fortenberry as Chief of Police, who is my brother... and since he has been here it was up to the "Board of Alderman" to send me back to the academy. And if you anonymous people do your homework, you would know why it was in the best interest of the city to send me back. I Officer Fortenberry will continue to SERVE and PROTECT Lumberton Citizens regardless of you negative anonymous people.

  6. Thank you Officer E. Fortenberry! Glad you clarified the truth. That is typical of the false information that gets passed on this blog. They take a bit of true information and twist it into some terrible manipulative unrecognizable lie.

By the way, trailers/mobile homes/RVs are not poisonous. They have the same chemicals in them that are in most building materials, and they have the same levels of those chemicals in them that have been in them for decades. The bottom line is that some people decided that they could milk the government for $$$ after Katrina. Imagaine that... someone trying to milk the government for MONEY!!

  9. It's funny how people can post false comments bout the police in Lumberton but when one decides to stand up for herself,,you come back and say excuses and how would you know that she is on the clock while responding? I mean as long as lies are being tossed around everyone listen but wants to overlook the truth, the people of Lumberton is a trip. If anyone wants to make a difference figure out ways to get jobs here and try to keep the cops we have instead of running them off. This chief hasnt done any worse than the rest that was put to serve and protect. Why wasnt any other chief dragged under the bus while they were racially profiling people who they stopped. There are drugs all over Lumberton besides Myrick Avenue but thats the street thats patroled the most. Why? I dont blame the Chief for not addressing every problem or concern in this town on News 7 or Hattiesburg American making the citizens of Lumberton look like fools as with the last administration. What happens in Lumberton should stay in Lumberton!! I think he is doing a good job and so are his officers!!!

  10. What false information, hell she in uniform hours before and is seen after she wrote on the blog.
Go figure. And why so much defense for her when yall let everybody drag the mayor, alderman, and other officers through the damn mud. Like said earlier, she need to be on a desk job. When I see different I will say different. Why try to defend yourself in writing, let your work speak for you okay. Sometimes the best defense is to be quiet and do your best. And since you in such defense of her, next time any of the other cops stop someone, be in defense of them too. Stop running and calling everybody when they pull somebody over. Remember, they doing a good job right. So act like it. Stop cussing them out, they doing a good job remember. Stop worrying about them targeting Myrick Avenue, they doing a good job right. I’m all for the cops, don’t get me wrong. But don’t pick your friend or the one you get along with and defend.

  11. My point is if you can comment, she has the right to do so too!!! And who is the yall????? I dont have to defend anyone,,if you break the law the cops got the right to stop whoever, but to my own defense I have a perfect driving record so I dont have to defend anyone when the cops stop them, if you break the law suffer the consequences for your actions. And as for the drugs on Myrick,,it was just a statement that drugs are all over Lumberton not just that one street. And if the best defense is to be quiet,,why are you still talking????? The mayor and the alderman were appointed by the citizens of Lumberton to do a job and if the citizens of Lumberton have a problem with the way our city is being run by the elected officials, its your right to step up and say something at board meetings not to the paper or news. And as for as a friend I dont not know this lady or any of the other cops personally so she is no friend of mine. Im just glad that people will stand up for themselves regardless of who they are. What makes you think you can comment on a blog about her, but she cant respond? Double standards to me!! Anyway this is just my opinion and as we all know everybody is entitled to state their opinion right or wrong!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. I believe it was "get off the blog while you working" The point was, I think, was to not be on there while you are working!!! Why are you still talking???? I don't believe anybody cares about the officer responding, by all means she should. Not while on the job, right or wrong!!!!! Right!

    ReplyDelete
  13. WHY DON'T YOU GET JOB AND STOP BEING A LIL BITCH AND PUT YOUR NAME ON STUFF ?SCARED ?AS FAR AS BEING IN UNIFIORM THEIR ARE THINGS CALLED BREAKS , SO IF YOU HAD A JOB YOU WOULD KNOW THIS !! OH AND COLLECTING WELFARE FOR THE DIRTY LIL RUG RATS YOU GOT , AND SELLIN DOPE THAT DOES NOT COUNT AS A JOB !!!! SO IF YOU GOT ALL THIS TALK LET US SEE WHO YOU ARE IF YOU ARE NOT AFRAID?

    ReplyDelete
  14. This is a useless argument because my only point was that Im glad she responded to the allegations against her and the police academy, maybe if WE as citizens were attending these board meetings WE would know why she didnt go to the academy during the last chiefs turn and had to go now. The word "excuses" is what you used after she responded to things being said about her, thats the false information I was speaking of, so basically if anyone has different information as to why she didnt go then maybe that should be printed instead of opinions. One famous quote I love is "A Wise Man Speaks Cause He Has Something To Say, A Fool Speaks Cause He Wants To Say Something!"
