News You May Have Missed

It was reported that no one was hurt from the accident at Dirt Cheap. From what I was told, the owner of the car was not able to get in the parking spot because someone had blocked or limited the access to the handicap parking space by parking on the line. Allegedly, a good samaritan offered to move the vehicle for the man and was not familiar with the hand-gears that are used to operated the vechile. It was said that the man lost control of the car and plowed through the front entrance of Dirt Cheap. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the good samaritan allegedly was driving with a suspended driver's license. Lesson: even if you're trying to help someone, please know the status of your driver's license. In other news, it was reported that at least 12 full-time teaching positions will be eliminated at the Lumberton Public School District for the 2012-2013 school year. The teachers will be notified in April if their contract will not be renewed. The students are currently out of school on spring break and motorists should be mindful of the increased pedestrian traffic. In better news, the parking lot for the Lumberton Police Department is being repaved at no cost to the City of Lumberton. Newly elected Lamar County District Supervisor, District 2, Warren Byrd, is covering the expenses of the re pavement job. Also, there could be a grant in place to help the City of Lumberton purchase some Dodge Chargers for the police department. The Lumberton police cars are in poor shape and in dire need of replacement. Unfortunately, the board has not been fiscally responsible in their spending and the city is looking for other avenues to replace the aging fleet of police cars. Now for even more good news, Lucy Holder, owner of Lucys's Soul Food Restaurant, is getting closer to setting date for her grand open. Her restaurant is located directly across from the Lumberton Library. She's currently working on her menus and she said she hope to be open before Easter.

  1. So, Dirt Cheap now has a drive-through? Ha! That happens all the time down here in South Florida. They mistake the gas pedal for the brakes and drive into stores, swimming pools, salons, etc.
