Main Street Renovation

Soon, Main Street will not be the same. Preparations are being made to rid the City of Lumberton of its' dilapaidated buildings. The demolition of several buildings was one of the topics discussed at the Special Called Meeting that was held March 19,2010.
I had stopped attending the board meetings because our public officals seemed more iterested in serving themselves and not the public. But yesterday I saw a glimmer of hope for the City of Lumberton. I was throughly impressed how Alderman Timothy Johnson conducted himself during the meeting. He is truly an advocate for the residents of Ward 4, and the City of Lumberton. We are all fortunate to have a man of his vision, dedication, and integrity, willing to make the sacrifices that holding public office in Lumberton requires.
I was also impressed with our Alderman at Large, Bobby Gibson. There were some that tried to throw Mr. Gibson under the bus but I was thought he handled himself with grace and dignity. Bobby is a business man, and his votes are based on his perspective as a business man. There are too many people on the board that are willing to borrow without dealing with the reprecussions of their decisions. That is the mentality that has our city paying notes on loans from the 1970's. The board must realize that the decisions they make today will be felt by the citizens of this city for generations to come. I agree that we need to find funding for the police department, but we need to find a solution that will not be a burden for those that are left to foot the bill.
