Water Woes

There has got to be a better way. We can no longer allow this city to hold us hostage. Over the last few days, some people have voiced their concerns about how the City of Lumberton's water department is the epicenter of non-professionalism. Clerks are always on their cell phones and for some reason; citizens are not getting their water bills in a timely fashion and are still expected to pay late fees. Whenever I pay my bill, I usually interact with Sue and I have never seen her on a cell phone, but one time, Stephanie took my water bill payment; she wasn't on her cell phone, but I noticed that my receipt stated that the bill was received by Sue. Why did the board of aldermen purchase two cash drawers if the clerks are still using money from just one register? Another issue I have with the water department is the deposit of the checks. Generally, I pay the water bill on either the first or third of the month, but for some reason, it takes anywhere from 15-21 days for the check to reach the bank, which is only a block away. What is the SOP (standard operating procedure) for depositing checks? I'm just wondering if I'm the only person having those types of issues with the water department. If you are having any issues with the water department, I would love to hear from you so I can compile a list of complaints. The last time we had a legitimate complaint about the water department; Timothy Johnson said he would look into the matter. Well, that was 10 months ago and he's still haven't responded to the inquiry. So, the next list of complaints will be given to Mayor Holder; hopefully, she would be able to give us an answer or at least an update.

  1. I would like to know how does Stephanie have enough time to keep printing out pages from your blog to give to the aldermen, but never has enough time to deposit my checks. I try to balance my account and as always, the city of lumbeton check is the last to clear my account. Where do we send out complaints because I want mine included?

  3. I'm having the same problems with my checks not clearing the bank, but I've been calling the bank and told Lynn Jones I want her to do more than call city hall about the problem or I will start doing business with a bank that will get me some results. For some reason, our checks are not being deposited in a timely fashion and if they are not depositing the checks, they are not depositing the cash. What's the problem? If she would stay off Lumberton Informer, ordering burgers from Miss Lou and stop having gossip sessions with the boys on the garbarge crew maybe she could get some work done.

  4. This is not a comment about water bill issues, although I have them, but I want to know why Hobson is riding around on that old motorcycle and what about that big fight that happened last night. Daniel's janky ass was so eager to jump into Hobson's corner, but he got him working on nights, by himself, putting him and the citizens in a dangerous position. I was all Team Daniel at one point, but I see he's just another fake ass wannabe. Just because you got a black wench warming your bed and giving you head don't mean you down with the cause. It just means that you're just another white boy that likes to dip his little stirrer in brwon sugar. WTBS: do Bobby Gibson think he's a cop? The next time he comes running to respond to a police call his janky azz is gonna get dealt with b/c he's not a cop, he's a cunt.

  5. I'm going to e-mail you a complaint just because I want to see an end to this mess. I've known Stephanie all of my life because I also live in Lumberton. From all outward appearances, she seems to be a kind person. I just don't understand how everyone else can be at fault. Someone gave me a copy of the minutes and I read for myself the statement where she said that the office can be run how she felt it should be run. I'm not a good record keeper and I'm not an accountant, but I know in every form of government, there are checks and balances in place and I don't see how Lumberton would be any different. I don't know if she's doing this because she's still upset with the mayor or she's doing this because she's a pathological liar. Everybody can't be lying on this girl. Everybody can't be lying about their insurance being cancelled. Everybody can't be lying about their child support not being posted. Everybody can't be lying about her taking multiple lunch breaks and using the office as her personal supply room. I don't know Jonathan personally, but I have met him and I thought he was somewhat snobbish, sorry I couldn't think of a better word to use, but he was very involved in several organizations that relied on his work. People I associate with keep saying that he has an agenda and I think he does, he wants some accountability at city hall. We can't continue to run off the talented individuals that are willing to stay in this city despite the fact that jobs are scarce. That's why we are left with the rejects to patrol our streets. Some people said that Jonathan wanted Chief Fortenberry to stay because he was protecting him. Was this really a legitimate reason or was this something that was said just to try and get people talking or speculating about something else. I don't know if Hobson threatened Jonathan or not, but for the board to dismiss the issue was not a sign of true leadership. I find it strange that almost all of the aldermen say they don't read the Lumberton Informer, but when they got a chance to try and shut it down, they jumped at the opportunity. I read the informer and I remember what Jonathan said in an old post, there are always three sides to a story and the informer represents his side of the story. Why are people getting all up in arms about someone's opinion is confusing to me, but I don't see how the board is not trying to get answers to some of the questions raised in the blog. Where are the checks and balances and why are they so willing to get rid of certified officers? Cassandra Fortenberry was the best officer to ever work in Lumberton and she would have made an excellent chief of police, but because she uncovered a possible scam taking place in the office of Stephanie Mullings, she was a target and they fired her just like they did when Betty Speights found out about the fraud in the water department. This just can't keep being a coincendence. I know fraud is taking place in the water department because I hardly every pay a full water bill. I will make a complaint, but I will not include my name because I don't want to stop my good thing. Something's going on and it's time pay attention to what's going on. I don't care if you're friends with Stephanie or not, if money is being taken from this city, from tax payers, then we need some answers. There has been all this talk that Jonathan has no idea of what's going on, but as of late, he's been hitting the nail on the head. Just this week along, he's foretold of some things that were going to happen and the board of aldermen followed through like they were reading a script.

  6. Jonathan, deposits water and all other deposits are to be done on a daily basis, unless the policy was changed very recently. It is in the minutes. When JoAnn was in office there was a big problem with it, thats when the city wanted daily deposits. When I was in office, Joe Montgomery, previous city attorney, informed me the deposits are to be done daily.

  7. Leonette. . the deposits are supposed to be made daily but they always have some sort of excuse. I wonder what the excuses will be now that they hired a new deputy clerk. . whatever the case may be it shouldn't take a check written in Lumberton to a business in Lumberton 21 days to clear the bank. I talked Lynn Jones at Bancorp South and she told me that the checks are debited from the account as soon as city hall deposit the checks. So the problem is not with the bank.

  8. That's just it, bc that is the policy there is NO EXCUSE. That is part of the checks & balances.
