Mr. Beamon Makes An Appearance

The building inspector/code enforcer for the City of Lumberton made a brief appearance today. After 90% of the work has been completed on the Frank Lee Homes club house and maintenance building, Mr. Beamon decided to do a visual inspection. His visit to the site was less than 5 minutes long, but he managed to come to City Hall and spend another 5 minutes in the office. I guess it's another day of hard work for Mr. Beamon. I was surprised that he didn't come into the board room to address the alderpersons, or to provide some input on the projects that were being reviewed by our elected officials. I guess he noticed that his number one fan was not present, so he decided to forgo any interaction with the other members on the board.

Several months ago, the Lumberton Planning and Zoning Commission submitted a question about the building inspector to the Mayor and Board of Alderpersons, but they have not received a response to date. The Mayor has said over, and over again that the building inspector needs to be certified. But Mr. Gallagher, who worked for FEMA as an inspector for over 20 years was turned down for the position as building inspector/code enforcer because he didn't have certification in pool inspection. Now, how many pools have been built in Lumberton in the past 8 years? Well, that's what led to Planning Commission to ask the board about splitting the job, and allow Mr. Gallagher to work as code enforcer since he was local, and readily available to answer any questions posed by the Planning Commission. I guess the City of Lumberton is still in love with the fact that we have a building inspector/code enforcer that specializes in 5 minute inspections!?

We built 5 homes to sale/rent from the ground up in MS years ago before we left and those WHITE inspectors TRIED to give us the blues every single time we threw one up...
