Vetoes, Vendettas and Vindication
People are wondering why Mayor Holder won't veto some of the items that were approved at the last board meeting and there is a good reason why she won't veto the pay raise for the deputy clerk, the pay raise for the public works department and the purchase of a dead bolt lock for the city clerk's office--it's not a legal action. Some of you may say that the board's action to re-hire Lindsey Carter wasn't legal and you would be correct, but unlike the board of aldermen, Mayor Holder is not willing to break the law in order to get her way. It is what it is and you need to know.
At the last board meeting, LVFD Chief, Jerry Walters stated that there were several items still missing from the fire department. When Jerry Walters took over the fire department, he stated that several chain saws (valued at $599.00) and two pitot gauges (valued at over $1,500.00) were loaded onto someones truck and never returned to the fire department. Walters stated that he reported the missing items to the Board of Aldermen, but nothing has been done to recover the missing/stolen items. Timothy Johnson said that he would look into the matter, and see what steps needed to be taken to remedy the situation. He asked Walters to give him 2-7 day to investigate the matter and he will take it from there. Well, today is day 7 and I don't know what steps have been taken to bring this matter to a close.
The Lamar County Board of Supervisors will meet Thursday and part of their agenda is to discuss the infrastructure for the Industrial Park. I pulled some information about Ordinance 187, Lumberton's Comprehensive Plan, the letter disbanding the planning and zoning committee as well as a copy of the minutes where Mayor Holder informed the Board of Aldermen that the disbanding of the planning and zoning committee was a violation of Lumberton's ordinance as well as a violation of state law. It is rumored that the Board of Supervisors are planning on cutting any additional funding for the Industrial Park if they do not feel that Lumberton is interested in the progress of the park. I think the fact that they disbanded the LPZC, got rid of the comprehensive plan and haven't included the mayor in this entire process is a clear indication that they are not willing to go forward with the Industrial Park.
From the phone calls i just made, i can tell you what's been done about the missing equipment. NOTHING!
ReplyDeleteWhat's with this whole ordeal of ppl trying to get you banned from public places???? Are you really hated by that many ppl? How in the Hattiesburg can you ban a person from a public place? I wrote all the congressmen after you blogged about the library being targed for cuts and I guess I will have to write again to tell them about what's going on at certain branches. All I can say Jonathan is for you to be careful because I've been in the path of Hurricane Melinda and I was left behind like a pile of debris. If you're on her good side, everything's fine, but if you dare call her out on her icky ways and she's goes on the rampage. I remember my encounter with her when I was trying to help ppl get a job and we had a falling out, so I know what it's like when you dare go against the soverign authority for the Lumberton library. Watch you back because I'm sure she's gonna be gunning for you.
ReplyDeleteWell it looks to me Jonathan like you sit up at the library on the computers unimpeded, many hours a day sometimes. So all the talk of banning seems to be just that--talk. The only way you are going to get banned from a public place is if you go in there acting crazy, threatening people, stealing, selling drugs or something like that. No one can be banned for peacefully carrying out their business at Ramey's, the bank, the library or any other place. But I would not be worried about the cashiers, bankers or library people, Jonathan, I would be worried about some of the other people you write about, because some of them have a lot to lose because their businesses and livelihoods are tied up in the politics of this town and this county. I would be worried about the crazy country boys with arsenals in their closets whose wives or friends you are writing about. I would be worried about some random, self-righteous person who feels that you are the problem in town. Ramey's, Bancorp, the library, Wards, the Dollar stores and gas stations will happily keep on going no matter what those idiots at city hall do. I would think it is city hall most people want you to stay out of, and after the car eggings, hate mail and threats you have dealt with, it is bound to escalate. Do you ever worry that you are putting your friends and family at risk too? Do you ever worry that someone could walk up in a meeting at city hall or up into the library while and just start shooting? There are some crazy folks around these parts. You see people attacked over much less. People burn down houses over girlfriends and shoot friends over $5 they owe them! I fear for your safety because everyone knows your car, what you look like and probably where you live. That is so dangerous! I hope that you think about not only your safety, but the safety of all those close to you or who happen to be sitting next to you somewhere when some enraged person loses it over something on the blog, something that may not even have been written by you but by an anonymous poster!! You can say all day that you are not responsible for those comments, but ultimately the responsibility for everything on this blog is assigned to you. Is all of this really worth putting yourself, your family or even innocent bystanders at risk? Have you accomplished enough positive change in the city to justify this?
