How Does It Feel To Be A Problem?

If you did not attend last night's board meeting, you missed a whopper of a meeting. I am going to start from the end of the meeting to give you an idea of how volitaile the meeting became. Danny Davis, Public Works Director, dotted into the board room after pacing back and forth in the hallway like a spoiled child and then blurted out "What you two know about this city wouldn't cover a pimple on my ass." Satisfied with his total lack of professional decorum, he stomped out of the building again. Prior to making his third dramatic exit, Danny Davis, in yet another diva moment, threw his keys and city paid cell phone on the table in front of the mayor and trampled out into the darkness of the night. He waited outside, hoping and praying that someone would come and beg him to stay. True to form, Alderman Gibson ran to his rescue, begging him to stay. This couldn't have been played out any better if they would have rehearsed. While all of this is going on, I'm sitting there like WTF? If Danny Davis wanted to walk away from a job paying $35,595 during a recession, then, by all means, let him. I am certain that there would have been hundreds of qualified applicants, ready and willing to fill his position. His dramatic gestures was unnecessay because we all know he came back to work for the City of Lumberton in order to get back into the PERS (Public Employees Retirement System of Mississippi) progam. If not, his pimpled ass would still be working for the North Lumberton Utility Association.

Now you may be wondering how all of this began. Well, I'm glad you asked that question. When I asked why was Harry Wilkes salary being cut by $2.25/hr, while the other public works employees are only getting cut by .50 (fifty cents) that's when everything went downhill. I knew the answer, I just wanted to see if they would be truthful about the reason why Harry was being cut more than the other employees. They are attempting to cut Wilkes by $2.25/hr and make the public think that it is due to budgetary constraints, but during a budget workshop, Public Works Director, Danny Davis stated that he wanted Wilkes pay cut due to his failing health and his inability to perform all of his duties as a public works employee. This was discussed in an open meeting (could you say HIPPA violation or American with Disabilities Act violation?) And this is what made Danny Davis so upset that he pretended to quit his job. Danny Davis thinks of himself as the Massah of the Public Works Plantation and he did not feel that us "free" black folk should be questioning him about how he's running his department. I'm was just trying to find the logic in the matter since during the same meeting about Harry Wilke's alleged failing health, the board thought it was a great idea to allow Roy Easley to continue to work on weekends because of Danny Davis' alleged failing health.

But wait, a lot happened prior to these events. It all started when the aldermen wanted to amend an ordinance to end all water bill adjustments. They are no longer willing to allow the once per year adjustment as a safety net for the citizens of Lumberton. The City of Lumberton has spent thousands of dollars on new software programs, updates, printers and training, but they can't explain why there are still so many errors on the water bills. We would think that the logical step would be to solve the issues within the water department before ending any adjustments on the water bills, but remember we are living in Lumberton, we love to put the cart before the horse.

However, the biggest issue that was brought before the Board of Aldermen last night was the matter of "free" water allegedly being given to a certain business owner, namely Jerry Brown. Business owner, Tina Holder, eloquently presented her concerns and provided proof of her allegations to the Board of Aldermen last night. She stated that when she leased the salon @ 600 W. Main Avenue, she was not required to pay a water bill. But when she discussed the details of her situation with another salon owner, she was immediately contacted by Jerry Brown, telling her that she needed to go to city hall and pay a water deposit. Tina Holder said that she was dumb-founded by the whole matter because when Shelby Young leased the property, she did not pay a water bill, and she didn't understand why she is now being required to pay a water bill. As Tina Holder was giving the details of her situation, I immediately thought that there must be some sort of glitch in the system, but the story didn't end there. It was also revealed that the Drug Court managed to go without paying a water bill as well. Okay, this too could be explained by a glitch in the system, but then it was revealed that both properties are owned by Jerry Brown. Now, these glitches no longer seem that random; a pattern is beginning to emerge. Our city clerk, Stephanie Mullens interjected, saying that "she can see where the conversation was going" and she declared that she has never given her uncle, Jerry Brown, free water. She said that whenever the matter was brought to her attention, it was corrected. But somehow, the City of Lumberton allegedly gave or donated 18 months of water to either Jerry Brown or the Drug Court, because they were not receiving a water bill. The meeting began with the aldermen saying that the City of Lumberton is in dire straits and needed to stop loosing money in the area of water bills, but when this matter was brought up, they sat there like a calf looking at a new gate. The only alderman that seemed intersted in getting to the bottom of this matter was Alderman Rogers. Keep in mind that when Betty Speights (Deputy Clerk 2) was accused of waiving a $10.00 late fee, they (Gibson, Johnson, and Crider) were ready to have an re-inactment of the Spanish Inquisition, but when it is brought to their attention that the city has possibly lost thousands of dollars on "free" water, they sit there twidling their thumbs. But in the midst of all the chaos, Alderman Johnson did tell the audience that if they had any complaints about things that are going on at city hall, they should put their complaints in writing, so they can research the allegations and be better equipped to address the problems. But if memory serves me correctly, I think Betty Speights submitted two letters of complaint about things she discovered while performing her duties as Deputy Clerk 2 and she still haven't received a response. I guess they are still researching the matter.

  1. They need to do something about the city employee riding around smoking all day in a city operated truck. Oh, I forgot, he works for the water department with Roy and besides he's white. I don't see Harry on the job smoking, standing around. If Harry is sick let him retire and pay him his salary since Danny don't want to pay him.

  3. I just have a question, is Stephanie Engles-Cernigulia-Mullings giving out free head jobs to the male aldermen b/c they seem so eager to keep her behind the desk? That fat bitch can't follow a diet, how in the hell do you think she can follow the laws governing a city? You and Jonathan need to get off your asses and take a road trip to the Aspen clinic.

  4. Cooper and the Feed Mill about to be history. With the revenue base dwindling to nothing, there won't be any money left to support city hall anymore. Lumberton will revert back to a community in Lamar County. It is funny to me to see that big banner at the 4 way stop that says shop in Lumberton. Not many places to do that. The one thing that could save Lumberton from these economic woes would be to make the sale of beer legal inside the city limits. Chevron and Shell would be reeling in the cash. Restaurant owners would flock here to serve beer with their po-boys. Do the alderpersons realize how much sales tax is being paid to Forrest County by citizens of Lumberton and those living around Lumberton? All that money is driving out to the beer store just over the Forrest county line rather than boosting our city's sales taxes. And by the looks of it, sales taxes are about all the city will have left as people leave properties vacant and free water is given to the few property owners who have a strangle-hold on this city.

  5. Cursing and saying ugly things only shows that you aren't intelligent enough to come up with a decent argument. What good is calling someone fat in this day and age and in a political forum? 3 out of 4 Americans are overweight. There are several overweight people working at city hall, so why single out the one person who has worked hard to get the proper training? How can any work get done when all the deputy clerks, police and city workers spend most of their work time documenting every other worker's performance so they can try to get them fired? I've never seen such idiocy, incompetence and selfishness as I see in this city. What a den of snakes to have to work and/or live in! If there is a problem, it is up to the aldermen to clean house both within city hall and within our city limits. We are seeing our property values plummet because no one wants to buy a home where the city is falling apart.

  6. This blog is will on it's way to showing just how far away from the line of racial equality some of the citizens are willing to stay. There was nothing eloquent about the way Tina (Speights) Holder, handled hereself. The Mayor is suppose to maintain order in these meetings, but she refuses to do so when it is her family. It amazes me that the city will only hire blacks to work in the public works department, and they are the ones' complaining. There were alot of comments made last night that didn't need to be made by people who will go church tomorrow night and pretend that they don't act the way they act during the week. It is a sad time in this city. I respect Alderman Johnson for trying to keep the stress level down in the meeting. As far as the comments left on this particular blog, Jonathon will loose any respect I have for him if he allows these types of comments to continue. The last comment made about Ms. Mullings was totally inappropriate and uncalled for. This was apparently posted by someone without any ethics or morals whatsoever. If you have something to say like that to someone, go say it to their face, not on the internet where you can hide. She is a decent & respectful person who didn't deserve to be attacked in that manner. Why can't the people of this city lay their personal feelings aside and fight for the good of this city. This city is dying more everyday and it's only going to continue to get worse until we can all get together and work as a united community. If you can't come up with a solution to the problems this city is facing, don't be part of the problem. We already have enough of those!

  7. I think that the Post about the city clerk is going too far.. There is a big difference bewteen posting how you feel and ugly and you can say even dirty... That woman has done NOTHING to deserve that kind of talk about her and it shows what kind of person it really is that talks about someone that way.. We need to be more concerned about this city and how certain city official can get away with anything ( murder ) as long as you are kin to the mayor.. That is NOT what this city is about.

  8. Wow, I do not know who left that last comment, but I consider Stephanie and "Uncle Jerry", close and personal friends. It truly pisses me off that someone so ignorant would talk such trash about people they know nothing about. These are both good people, and I won't degrade myself into talking about people who make such comments, all I can say is..... GET A ****ing LIFE!

  9. OMG,,,cant help but laugh to see on the news that your website was on the agenda for the board meeting!!! These people are a trip,,it was a live comedy show and to think they are in charge of this city. Does Tim Johnson think he is the Mayor or is he the dummy the other board members are using to speak for them? From what I saw of this meeting, the City of Lumberton is in trouble cause if they cant decide who need to speak at meetings how in the world are they gonna bring jobs and recreation here???

  10. The comments about Stephanie and Jonathan in the previous comment were truly uncalled for. What little character one must have to think it is acceptable to say such things about another human being.

  13. I seen the video from WDAM and the title was "Chaos brings Lumberton Aldermen meeting to abrupt halt"...I had to watch it, and me being a 26 year old I was told to respect your elders and not to interrupt anyone while someone else is speaking, with that being said. Tim Johnson (don't really know him) but kept interrupting Mayor Holder as if it was the correct thing to do. I mean if the aldermens don't show her any respect, how do they feel the citizens will. That suppose to be her support team. It was ridiculous, and everyone else sat up there not wanting to say anything. The look on their faces showed that they were getting frustrated. People try to make it as white black thing, but it's not. What they have to understand that no matter what ethnicity you are, this town is going down the drain, and how will they feel when someone who isn't going to take much crap come in and take over? Something to think about, because I'm pretty sure that this Mullings woman isn't the only one doing dirt. But, once you start revealing ones dirt there are plenty more to come behind. That's why everyone (board members) are so defensive towards Mayor Holder because she is TRYING to make a change but can't if she doesn't have anyone behind her. When she was reading the letter that was addressed to her, I am a little confused on why she couldn't read it. Did it say confidential or something of that sort? I can say that I really don't know much about politics but I can say that the board meeting was really unprofessional like. ‎

  15. Tim Johnson thinks he is the HNIC. I don't have any respect for him at all.

  16. Why is that the mayor always has to take the blame for the aldermans? U can say what u wanna about her. She is a good woman! U can read about her all over the internet, being called everything but a child of God. And still noone defends her. The good part about her is SHE KNOWS WHO SHE IS! AND IF U WANNA KNOW RESEARCH HER BACK ROUND. PEOPLE SAY THAT SHE SHOWS OUT LIKE HER ALDERMANS. WELL U GOT TO SEE WHY! I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TOLD THAT EVEN "A DOG GET TIRED" SO IF SHE NEEDS TO BLOW HER TOP. BY ALL "MEANS NECESSARY" GO GIRL. And she is the mayor!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Wow, no wonder Lumberton is going down the drain. Read back over the above comments. Innocent people are being slandered left and right without a second thought. You're right about one thing. Johnson doesn't fit in. He actually speaks articulately and can make it in the thriving world outside of Lumberton. Maybe that's why some of you have a problem with him???

  18. You're still using the term "HNIC" while stating that you don't have respect for someone else in the following sentence. You wouldn't use that term if you had respect for yourself or anyone else.

  19. Why is there a person that would just get mad, throw stuff around and walk out even in power? Where is someone who will sit down calmly and ask "How do we fix this?"

    ReplyDelete
  20. There is only so many times you can sit and ask " How Do We Fix This"

This is all so Silly! Come on! what are you actually doing to help Lumberton? Jonathan F. Griffith (Really)... Danny knows so much about his job & if you think anyone else is qualified to put up with the crap he has, Then go find them! (unless you guys wanna hire back that guy from walmart!) ya know the one that spent most of the funds on new office furniture!

I grew up in Lumberton and when I was a child things were so much better. Now I am raising my children here. I'm worried about their future because of all this nonsense going on by grown adults such as yourselves! Why do you think people are moving away? Lumberton use to be so much more! Its sad! Work together instead of causing more trouble and stressing others out!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm sure it went differently! Back in April you stated that Danny Davis was doing a great job! Now you criticize him! Who shall we really believe?

    ReplyDelete
  22. If you are so certain that it went differntly, then feel free to ask those that were in attendance for the meeting. If and when Danny do a great job, I am more than willing to say so, but when he act like the ass that he is, I am more than willing to report that as well. Stop it with these two sets of standards. There is ton's of criticism on Lumberton TOPIX about the mayor, and I think Jon made the headlines as well, but that's all fine and dandy b/c they are the angry black folks trying to stir up trouble. We can drag them in the mud all day long, but don't say anything about Stephanie giving out blow jobs and not doing her job or Danny wanting to fire ppl for being sick and his sick ass can't do half of his job responsiblities. Why not ask some real questions or make a real point. Why is Stephanie the only person NOT getting a cut in pay, when everyone else is expected to suffer and deal with the budget constraints of this city. Looks like favortism or pay back for something. BTW. .I think Benny worked at Dilliard's not Wal-Mart.
