Still Standing

We are in the third year of this board's administration, and we're still working on projects that were brought to the table when Mayor Miriam R. Holder was serving as Alderwoman at large. Yesterday, Mayor Holder greeted those that attened the groudbreaking ceremony for Azalea Gardens, a $9.5 million dollar senior living facility. The proposal for this development was submitted when Mayor Holder was serving as alderwoman at large. She said that "her desire to continue on as an elected official of Lumberton was ignited by her drive to see this development come to fruition." Never underestimate the power of a praying woman. She had been talked about, scorned, and members of this board and former members of the LPD attempted to take away her freedom. Now we have people that are upset with Stephanie Mullings for doing her job. But these are the moments that will either define a person or defeat a person. Everybody knows that I have said some unsettling things about Stephanie, but it seems that when she's holding to her moral and legal obligations, others want to throw her under the bus. For instance,at the last board meeting, Gibson made a point to say that he checked the books to see if people were being charged for large garbage pick-ups? Why now? Is he looking for some descrepency that he could hold over Stephanie in hopes of getting Hobson back on the force? I don't know, but it seems that the maggots have turned to flies and despite a multi-million dollar investment being made in Lumberton, the other aldermen (Gibson, Crider, Johnson and Hale) didn't think it mattered enough for them to adjust their busy schedules to attend this event. So far, this board has done nothing but bring division and derision to the City of Lumberton. The money that was used to renovate the Fifth Avenue Park and the money used for the Main Street Renovation was secured by Mayor Holder. She had to keep the projects on track and submit all the paperwork before the deadlines. You will not hear of this in the lame stream media, but she has worked tirelessly to secure these grants. Also, it seems that there are some that are confused about statements I made months ago about the financial status of the City of Lumberton. Well, let me clear the air. The $9.5 million dollar investment that is being made by the South Mississippi Housing and Development Corporation is not coming from the City of Lumberton. The City of Lumberton was chosen as a place for this investment because of its close proximity to air travel, interstates and other metropolitian areas, such as Hattiesburg, Gulfport and New Orleans. The same reason this city was chosen is the same reason other businesses should be attracted to this area. So, while you and your cohorts are seeking ways to prove that my opinios are wrong, why don't you take a little time and ask your aldermen what have they done to bring revenue generating ventures into the City of Lumberton. This is their third year in office and they're still riding on the coat-tails of the previous administration. It's not a matter of what have you done for me lately. . it's a matter of what have you done period?
