The People Want Results

Mayor Holder was given the opportunity to address the concerns citizens had regarding her decision to stop signing the payroll checks for the City of Lumberton. As outlined in Miss. Code 21-39-18, “the checks shall be signed by the mayor or a majority of the members of the board of aldermen.” Contrary to what Tim Johnson stated on the news, this Mississippi law gives the aldermen the authorization to sign checks. But Bobby Gibson, Alderman at Large/Mayor Pro Tempore has the authority to sign checks as well. As a matter of fact, Bobby Gibson did not make any attempt to sign the checks when he returned from his trip to Jackson. Gibson and Johnson arrived at city hall today to tell the reporter to meet them at the library for their interview. If Gibson was concerned about the employees not receiving their paycheck, he would have been at city hall first thing Friday morning with a pen in his hand. My advice to Mayor Holder is to send out a memo to the Board of Aldermen outlining the law and her reason for not signing the payroll checks. By sending the aldermen a memo of your intentions, they can not claim that you are doing this because they failed to reinstate your salary. In addition to sending them the memo, I would also like to suggest that you refrain from defending your actions on the news. I guarantee you that someone will contact News 7, but I suggest rhat you do not respond to the media. If Bobby Gibson conviently has an out of town meeting every Thursday, it will be clear that he is not concerned about Lumberton’s employees. On the news, Timothy Johnson offered us more lip service. He stated that they don’t have any disregard for the mayor, but nothing could be further from the truth. Gibson, Crider, Hale and Johnson have spent the first two years of this administration fighting our mayor on almost every issue. Tim has this ability to make people think he cares about this city, but he’s a pro when it comes to feigned humility. He knows how to talk the talk but his words are as empty as his campaign promises. Timothy Johnson manages to say “with all due respect” while at the same time, embodying impertinence.
Kent Crider also managed to string a few words together and inform us that he, Bobby, Tim, and Rebecca are doing what the citizens of Lumberton want them to do. Is he so thick headed that he thinks the citizens want to be the laughing stock of the state? They are so focused on pressuring the mayor in the hopes that she will resign. I said it before and I will say it again; Bobby, Kent, Rebecca and Tim hate Mayor Holder more than they love the City of Lumberton. If that statement were not true, they would have been able to work past their personal agendas and get down to finding viable solutions for this city. Instead, they want to micro-manage every department, with the exception of the clerk’s office. Since Kent is totally oblivious to what the citizens want, I’ll give him and his crew a few pointers. The citizens of Lumberton want companies to come in and replace the jobs that were lost with the closing of Land O Lakes and the eventual closing of Cooper Industry. The citizens of Lumberton want more than one grocery store. The citizens of Lumberton want their kids to have somewhere to go after school, during the summer and on the weekends. The citizens of Lumberton want a group of police officers that can patrol the streets of Lumberton without the risk of losing their job because they arrested a relative of a board member.
The City of Lumberton is standing at the proverbial fork in the road. The blatant disregard for our mayor, employees and citizens serves as a reminder that as far as we’ve come, we still have a long, bumpy road ahead. Which path will our city take? Which Lumberton will prevail?

  1. That's real talk. . Tim Johnson is faker that a 50 cent food stamp. He talk all this mess, but it's not supported by anything. He went from door to door in Love Quarters promising this and that but haven't delivered on anything. Hell, I would be happy if he just fixed the park like he said he was going to do. He's a liar, and he never want to give a straight answer about anything. You're man of enough to make these decisons Tim, then be man enough to face them. Get your tail from between your legs and let everyone know that you have an issue with a woman being in charge. Like the post said, you and your crew have wasted two years ganging up on the mayor. When are you going to get down to the business of the city. Where are the jobs you promised, where are the play areas you promised, where are the economic improvements you promised? You and Ben fooled us twice, but you won't fool us for the third time.

  2. Why do we expect Tim to do better that what he's doing. The people of this city allow people to move in and take them over. Everytime a tumble weed blows into this city, we're all on board. Remember Aaron Lott. Those idiots in Ward 4 are supporting whomever they Passah tell them to support so I hope you don't expect to get any better representation. You want to know their level of stupidity just drive by Love Quarters and look at the sea of broken down, moldy trailers and rigt in the middle of this trailer graveyard is a sign, Help Ben Win. . Negro please.

  3. In case you didn't notice, Tim Johnson is not committed to this community. He went from door to door lying to us, telling us what he's gonna do and two years later all he's managed to do is contribute to the chaos that takes place at city hall. But there's nothing here to make him want to do better. His kids are not a part of our school system, so there's nothing that's gonna make him want to make Lumberton better. He only alliance is with Ben Winston. He's married to Ben Winston's daughter, he attends Ben Winston's church, he works for Ben Winston's business and he does what Ben Winston tells him, and that include dispresecting the mayor. Trust me, if Ben Winston wanted his boys (Tim and Bobby) to reinstate Mayor Holder's salary, it would have been done a long time ago.

  4. You post almost everything about what's going on in Lumberton, but you failed to say anything about the group that has taken over the Lumberton library. Wi-fi haven't you mentioned anything about the Louisiana club. They have full run of the library, but those of us that lived in Lumberton all our lives must have out get togethers during business hours. Are the members of the Lousy-anna club paying to hold their private parties or is it that the rules don't apply to them. Tomorrow is Fat Tuesday, and I'm certain they will be having another private party once the library has closed. Who's paying for the use of electricity, materials, etc.? I just find it intersting that you haven't broached this subject. The Lousy-anna Club reminds me of another restricted group that used to meet under the cover of night. All white members, private membership and meeting at night. . sound familiar?

  5. I think it is pretty sad that the people who have lived here all of their lives won't come out and support the library but those that have only recently moved in do. There have been things for the elderly, diabetics, business owners, job seekers, children, students trying to go to college, people trying to file for government aid, homeschoolers--if you checked out their online and printed calendars you would know about those. That more than covers most folks who live in Lumberton. Sadly, most folks are more worried about using the library's computers to troll on Facebook while their toddlers run around screaming and bothering those of us there trying to do real work on the computers. Shame on the citizens that won't come out and participate at the library--about the last thing left in this dying town. Rather than sit there and complain about it, take yourself up there and participate. Become a Friend of the Library even. It isn't like they turn people down who want to be a part of something. Anyone can join or participate in anything they do there for free. You don't have to be Louisianan, Lumbertonian, Lamar Countian, you just have to go. Just like the situation at city hall though, people have plenty of time to complain about it but no time to actually participate and take part in civil discourse.

  6. Anyone from Lumberton get a water bill yet?

  7. The water bills were mailed this past Monday. City clerk said that the late fee will be not be applied until March 15.

  8. The last time they was late coming out they blamed it on Betty. Who did they blame this time or what was the problem?
