A Byrd-less Thanksgiving

This is not an ad for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), this is in reference to the news I received about one of our police officers, Timothy Ryan Byrd. I was told that Byrd lost his appeal to have his police certification re-instated. I don't have an official confirmation of this matter, but I'm sure it is something that will be discussed at the next regular scheduled board meeting. For those of you not aware of the story, I will catch you up on the details. Back in September of this year, it was discovered that Byrd has lost his certification because of his actions/behavior at his previous law enforcement job at the Pearl River Sheriff's Department. I don't know the details that led to the loss of his certification because he resigned before anything could be placed in his file. In order to file an appeal to have his certification re-instated as a police officer, Byrd had to get hired again in the field of law enforcement. Somehow, he stumbled upon the dumping grounds of Lumberton and since there was a new chief in town, coupled with the fact that we have a board of aldermen that don't check the background of those hired to serve and protect, Byrd was hired to work with the Lumberton Police Department.
Now here's the gotcha. First of all, it's amazing that this board is not concerned about those they bring into this city; they just give them a gun, a t-shirt with a printed badge, keys, a gas card and let release them into the community. Second, when it was discovered that Byrd's certification was in the appeal process, Bobby Gibson and Timothy Johnson refused to vote to suspend Byrd until the appeal process was completed; which meant Byrd was still patrolling the City of Lumberton knowing that he could lose his certification appeal at any time; leaving the City of Lumberton liable for any acts of malfeasance that may have been committed by this officer. Finally, and this is the most interesting part of the equation, how in the Hattiesburg are you going to wild-out and act a donkey knowing that your certification may not be re-instated? I guess this is where the devil plays with his minions. If I knew I needed my certification restored, I would have come to this town like I was the kindest person on earth. I would have been walking old ladies across the streets, helping customers with their grocery at the store, getting cats out of the tree, etc. to make people think I was an honorable person. Instead, he came into Lumberton trying to make a point by treating citizens like criminals and this caused some people to see him for what he really is and it's possible that some of those people took time to write letters of complaint to the certification board. Like I stated earlier, the news of Byrd's departure has not been discussed at an official board meeting, but when I find out more, I will let you know.

  1. Now ain't that some ish! Dennis was doing all this talk about getting rid of crime and then one of the first things he do is present a crook to the board to get hired. SMDH! If it's true it will be a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday and one more to go and it will have everything I wanted for Christmas.

  5. Hobson is a crook so why not hire a crook! Hobson is the biggest crook there is and I hope everything that he has done to people comes back on him 10 times worse. Hobson is a low life cop that can't even do anything with his own child, so why the alderman think he can run a city! They don't!! They just want him because he is their dumb flunky! And then they sit back and laugh at the dummy that do whatever they tell him too! All their days of evilness is coming to a end and I am going to love it!!

  6. In reference to the comment left @ 2:42 p.m.: if they find him another position, it won't be as a patrol officer and I'm sure that without certification, the city's insurance won't cover any position that would require him to carry a gun, but it will be intersting to see them scramble to find him another position in the LPD while they try to justify terminating "certified" officers.

  7. Are they serious? You mean to tell me that this board is looking for a way to keep Byrd on the city's payroll? This board has fired people left and right and they reside in Lumberton? Why would they fight to keep someone like this on the payroll? Is it because he's willing to do whatever they ask or is it because they knew he targets certain areas? I guess Byrd is going to be the new police clerk and I wonder what his pay rate will be. If the citizens don't vote out those dummies, they deserve everything Hobson is doing to this town.

  8. I have sat back quite about all of this, but I feel that I should say something. Byrd and Hobson are Christian men and I believe you have some ill feelings toward them. I really wish you would take the opportunity to get to know them like I know them and you will see that they are descent men.
