Making Up Their Own Rules

I was responding to a comment on the blog and I thought of a question I needed answered by the Public Works Director, Daniel "Danny" Davis. I finished the post and called city hall. Merlene answered the phone and I told her I needed Danny's telephone number. She replied, "I can't give out his number but I can take a message and have him call you back ." I then asked, was Danny's cellphone issued by the City of Lumberton? She replied "yes." Then I asked why couldn't a citizen get the telephone number to a cellphone paid for by the citizens of Lumberton? Merlene then repliied that the cellphone number is for contact with city officials not for citizens. " I then responded by saying, we can contact you and the chief of police but citizens are forbidden to have a telephone number to reach the public works director; the second most problematic department in the city. I also asked, are you his clerk, is that why you can't complete your job? She responded by saying I will give him your number and have him call you back. Of course, I have yet to hear from Danny Davis. I guess my message was conviently lost. Who's making up these rules? Did Danny stipulate that he didn't want tne telephone number to his city paid cellphone given out to citizens or is this another mandate by Merlene?

Just to make sure I wasn't blowing things out of porportion, I called the police department to see if I could get Chief Cowart's telephone number and there wasn't a problem getting her number despite the fact she pays her own cellphone bill. I find it odd that a public official has a problem with the public having their telephone number. Needless to say, I was able to get Danny's number, regardless of the roadblock set up by Merlene. So, to save other citizens the unnecessary trouble of dealing with Merlene, Danny's city issued cellphone number is 601-543-2679. If he don't want citizen's having his number, then he should pay his own bill. If you need Mayor Ben Winston's number, it's 601-596-5034. I would post the Chief of Police number but if you have an emergency, call 911. Once again, if you're working in a public position and don't want the public to have your telephone number, then you should resign and work in the private sector. Just out of curiosity, how many of you know your alderpersons telephone number?

  1. You continue to make dummies out of them and they refuse to give up residency in the Land of Stupidity. SOS. Please help save our city.

  2. Kent is my alderman and I don't have any way of contacting him. Could you post his number.

  3. No wonder Lumberton is in such bad shape. The dummies are in control and the intelligent ones are being painted as villains. Please don't stop blogging. Keep holding their feet to the fire.

  5. I am glad to see someone else feeling my pain. Dealing with the City of Lumberton.

  6. Why did you take the post down about the shooting? Oh, you can discuss city officials but you can't report the nigger news. I want to know how a person that's out on bond keep getting out of jail. In law enforcement, they're called confidential informants but in the hood their known as snitches. They worried about your blog and the biggest snitches are walking around with their pants sagging. I guess black lives only matter when the shooter is white.

  7. Tt's a different in being concern about your city and just mess. I would have deleted that about the shooting too. People hate you enough for trying to do right. They are too coward to stand up also people will talk about you but need your help when things go wrong for them.

  8. Lumberton informer continues to lie more and more the chief of police certainly does have a city paid phone is this another instance where you said that you called the post office and they told illegal information that the water bills had not been mailed but in fact they had been oh by the way the postmaster denied this it being illegal and all or is the police dept giving out false info?

    1. The telephone in the police department is shared by the officers on duty. Unlike Danny Davis phone, it's not exclusively used by the chief. But keep digging, you may stumble upon the truth. Until then, stay hidden.

  9. The person calling the Informer a lie why you have not comment on all the lies told by City Hall. I see your are one of the haters. Who really care about the Chief'd cell phone. We can call 911 plus doing hours you can alway reach the Cheif. Please the City of Lumberton have greater problems than that. So Sad. Also Danny is over the Water and Sewer Department and if someone sewer backup than you really have a problem and citizen will need him asap and not wait on Marlene to relay the information. The Post Office is another issue. You sound like the Cook girl who should be working and you should be study for your water test, so you can pass it before Merlene hire someone to replace you. She like you right now because you are helping with those lies but it will get old.

  10. That comment definitely sounds like it's coming from the office. Is she attacking the Informer or the police department? Besides we're on to another month of miscalculated water bills. Maybe the post came from Jay's wife. Didn't she post the receipt about the water bills? That statement is too confusing for me. But if that was the Cooke girl she should be studying and stay off the blog but she's got to keep Nerlene informed since she's gone for training. I hope she and her family enjoy their trip. Hopefully she will remember what was taught by the time Monday rolls around.

  11. So the Cook girl is City Clerk in the absent of Merlene? She to dump to pass the water exam. What will she do as Clerk from sugar to ???? You know what I mean.

  12. When Merlene return she should be smarter right?

    1. They have their fingers crossed but at the last meeting, she was already making excuses before going to training. Maybe she'll be able to finagle enough numbers to cover the $625,000 in matching funds needed for the 2.5 million dollar grant.

  13. I guess the City Hall doesn't know that you can catch more bees with honey. I am begining to think the people of Lumberton would never trust anything that come out of the City. It will be like the boy who cried wolf.

    1. If they get a knowledgeable clerk with some good customer service skills, the people will be pleased. When people become defensive and rude, it's generally because they're trying to take attention from something else. Something like the fact that they're in knowledgeable and can't properly use the software program. Instead of saying I don't know what I'm doing, I'll stay on as deputy clerk but you need a new clerk, they start attacking customers becUse they're essential ignorant.

  14. I am really not liking Ms Cooke. She is from Lumberton and she would go against the people who live there. So she now lives in Hattiesburg hmmmm. We should only employ people who live in Lumberton thats intelligent who can pass the water test and who cares. Remember this tHANKS? If you are going to use a sign please make sure it is correct.

  17. Merlene return Tuesday, February 17, 2015. I hope she enjoyed her vacation. Let she what she learned from her trianing. What is going to be her excuse now. The dog ate her notes.

  18. We shall see. I'm almost certain she's going to have a list of excuses that she probably wrote in training class. I'm sure this board will allow her to string them along for another two years. OAN, I wish people would stop saying that Ben does not like women. The truth of the matter is, Ben does not like intelligent people. If you're weak-willed and easily swayed, Ben loves you and it doesn't matter if you're male or female. The only people Ben dislike are those with enough intelligence to see him for what he is.

  19. Here is something I don't understand. The few people that voted in the last city election chose Ben Winston because they were tired of the previous mayor and administration. So why did this board continue with the same department heads approved by another administration? Why didn't they start with a clean slate? If Ben Winston was looking to move this city forward why didn't he get a new city clerk, police chief and public work director. None of them are doing a good job. Our water rating is slipping, the police department has no leadership and the city clerk is an old dog not capable of learning new tricks, that's why she's always growling and scratching for fleas.

  20. I agree why did the city keep all the old employees? We see they are most of the problem and maybe it wasn't the old Mayor? Now we have Kent, Jay, Ben and Tommie who are not helping the City of Lumberton with there personal agenda.

    1. During the last administration, the mayor was NOT the problem. She was the glue holding this city together because she's very knowledgeable about code charter municipalities. In this administration, the mayor is the problem because he's looking out for himself, not the city.

  21. Lumberton Informer what Ben, Tommie, Jay and Kent hate most are women, so I will never stop posting that.
