Monsters, Inc.

I was trying to figure out what was I missing? I know I'm not the smartest person but I'm not as dumb as some of the elected/appointed officials in Lumberton. Where's the logic? Even a broken clock is right two times a day. Well, the search is over, I had my ah-ha moment about why Lumberton is in such a downward spiral. Yesterday, a reader posted the following
"I used to think that they were a sinister group but I came to terms with the fact that they are all basically ignorant opportunists who want to be important. They are all self-serving and like to be surrounded by people like themselves. That's why they stick with inept clerks, useless attorneys, etc."
After all this time, I finally got it. All the time I spent blogging, hoping that a glimmer of integrity would be kindled but there's noting there to attach itself. That one reader comment made me realize that you can share your knowledge with a person but you can't make them think. Some people want to remain fools because the truth requires change and that's apparently something this mayor and board is not willing to do.

Now that I can exhale, knowing that nothing I say will infuence the foolish mind, I know how to approach the matter. Ironically, if I was getting sued, this would be a good time to close the blog but I must continue to blog because my first amendment rights are being challenged. When I started the blog, I wanted to show the side of local politics that was never shown on WDAM. Later, I added video and received a lot of feedback from people that onced lived in Lumberton. The intentions of this blog was never meant to serve as a proxy for attending meetings. It was my intention to give access to those that couldn't attend meetings because of work and/or health issues with the hope of inspiring others to actually attend and take part in the political process. Sadly, my primary intention hasn't worked but I will continue to use social media to give access to the meetings. At this moment, I'm trying to set up LiveStream so the entire meeting can be streamed live.

Here's a little lesson in history.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech..."
The First Amendment was meant to make one thing indisputably clear: free speech was the basis for a government of the people. Without a free press/blog, as well as the ability to openly gather, debate, protest and openly gather, debate, protest and criticize. How wo6ld the people be able to judge their government's adherence to the other rights? How could people vote knowledgeably if they didn't know what was being done in their name by their government? Thomas Jefferson said
"An informed citizenry is a vital requisite for our survival as a free people. "
I want to thank the reader for the comment that finally opened my eyes and ask for your prayers as I defend myself against a veiled attempt to usurp the laws providing first amendment protection. This is a crazy world in which we reside. We live in a town where no one knows what's in the budget but there's always money for tne clerk's office but never any money for the police department. Keep praying for the LPD as they risk their lives to protect yours. I'm loving the fact that I'm growing with each blog post but I guess I need to use a childhood cartoon to put everything into perspective. Scooby-Doo taught us that the real monsters always turn out to be humans. I guess those that are so disturbed about being exposed are probably saying, "I would have gotten away if it wasn't for that meddling blogger."

  1. Freedom of speech is not the issue here its you being responsible for what you say and all the others on here also if you have told the whole truth then Your 1st amendment rights will be upheld am sure if not and you have slandered someone and hurt them with lies you and others need to be held accountable peroid.

    1. You said the Lumberton Informer lied? What lies were told? The tag line on his blog says "my thoughts, my opinions, my writings, my city." There's a difference between lies and opinions. This is just another old white woman who probably grew up during Jim Crow who thinks a black man should t question her. You also said co mentors lied. News flash. Bloggers aren't responsible for anonymous comments just like WDAM, WLOX and The Hattiesburg Patriot are not responsible for comments posted on their social media pages. As a matter of fact, if anyone should be sued it's that guy that runs The Hattiesburg Patriot because he says some vile things about the Hattiesburg mayor, Chief of Police, City Attorney and area pastors. But there's a big difference, he's a white blogger talking about black public figures and The Lumberton Informer is a black blogger talking about black and white public figures. Hurt feelings don't equal slander.

  2. Please keep up the good work. It's amazing that the only reliable information comes from a blogger but the clerk and board are upset. Go figure. If Stephanie didn't sue you then no one should. Here's a tip. She's a public official and to prove her case she has to prove malice and that's very difficult to do especially since you're brutally honest about everyone mentioned in your blog even yourself.
