Don't Cancel A Check Your @$$ Can't Cover

The meeting was pretty lengthy; they discussed the issues of the city; the department heads gave their reports and then the meeting got interesting. There were several items on the agenda that died for either a lack of a motion or lack of a second. They include, but are not limited to the following: an order to terminate Stephanie Mullings, order to hire Willy Sims, CPA to review all daily activities (checks and balance), order to hire Candle Carr as deputy clerk (will blog about this later) and order to hire Michael Holder. After a brief discussion, the board voted to go into executive session and that’s when things got interesting. While the aldermen were in executive session, a variety of discussions were taking place among the citizens of Lumberton. There was a brief disagreement among a few of the audience members and during this time Sharese Pearson was discussing an issue that she had with city clerk, Stephanie Mullings. Out of the blue, Faye Engle started telling Sharese that employees don’t accrue time when they take a leave of absence and Sharese responded asking Faye how do she know what type of leave she was on. Faye responded, stating that “it’s all over Jonathan’s blog; everybody knows about it.” That’s when I entered the conversation and told Faye that the only time I discussed Sharese Pearson on my blog was in an effort to get the city to send her to the police academy. I also told Faye that I know that she and her daughter like to discuss personnel issues and that she must be having a senior moment because I never discussed any issues on this blog between Stephanie Mullings and Sharese Pearson. But now that I know what’s going on, I will discuss the matter today. Apparently, Stephanie Mullings took it upon herself to cancel a check that was issued to Sharese Pearson. Now the bank is calling Sharese to cover the money that was issued via the cashed check. After a game of phone tag, Timothy Johnson allegedly instructed Stephanie Mullings to cancel the check; calling it an illegal check. But the check was printed and signed by the city clerk as well as the mayor. So, who gave Stephanie Mullings the authorization to cancel a payroll check? No one is admitting to making the call to cancel the check, but the decision was made by either Timothy Johnson, Stephanie Mullings or both. It was not cancelled as a result of a legal order from the board because there was not a special called meeting regarding the cancellation of the check, but while the board was in executive session, they decided that they are not going to pay the bank for the check, but they told the remaining audience members that no action was taken in executive session. Right before the meeting was adjourned, Gibson, Crider, Hale and Johnson voted to override the mayor’s veto and allow Stephanie Mullings to attend a training session for court clerks. The motion to send the clerk to this event was vetoed just moments earlier and true to form, our attorney did not advise the board on this matter. But wait, there’s more. As everyone was exiting the building, I heard Stephanie yelling out for Rebecca, saying “Did you hear that, did you hear that? She [Sharese] just threatened me.” Rebecca responded, “No, what happened?” Next thing I know, Stephanie was telling the chief to call the county (apparently the one’s she working with in filing her stalking case against me) because she want to file assault charges against Sharese. The people that remained were beginning to make their way out of the building. But it became even more interesting as we left the building. Before the meeting as adjourned, Stephanie handed Rebecca Hale a print out of the “Elephant in the Room” post from the Lumberton Informer. (I guess she’s gonna keep a file on me like the ones she had on Bobby Gibson and Timothy Johnson.) Again, we have the city clerk printing out information from my blog on paper that was paid for by the citizens of Lumberton and keeping it in a folder that was paid for by the citizens of Lumberton, but she couldn’t print out a copy of the amended budget for the aldermen and they need that information in their packets in order to vote on the amendments. But Faye said it best, “You have to read the Informer because it’s the talk of the town.”

  2. I really think that Jonathan uses this blog to lash out against people, but we all say that we don't read it, but we do. This blog is the topic of conversatiion almost every morning and I am amazed that his stories hit so close to the facts. Stephanie has been a crook for years. She know it and her momma know it. There is a select group of people that get away with late fees and just a couple of months ago, she adjusted our water bill and it was never on the agenda. Stephanie's system goes like this. We pay our bill at the first of the month with a check so that we have the receipt with the date. That way we don't have to pay late or reconnect fees. Stephanie holds our check for about 10-15 days to make sure we have funds in our account to cover the check. So to keep people from thinking she's just doing it for a few people she hold almost all the checks that are used for payment. If you are a person that pays your water bill with a check, just take notice that it takes about two weeks for your check to make it from city hall to the bank. And I just gave you the reason why. Thanks for the hook ups.

  3. What a great time in American history. If we knew that black folks couldn't handle holding elected positions, we would have voted for you guys a long time ago. You have the majority on the board, but we are still running this city. And what makes it so much sweeter is the fact that your own race don't support you. Tim Johnson and Bobby Gibson are doing a great job at breaking up this city. We are so proud of you guys, especially Bobby. You must really have brass balls. You attend the same church as the mayor, but it's clear that there's no fellowship or love between you guys. Keep up the good work. You and Tim might have caused your leader Ben Winston to lose his re-election bid, but it was worth it.

  4. So what happened? Did Sharese beat Stephanie's fat ass? Stephanie can't keep messing with people's money and think that she's not going to be confronted about her dirty ass tricks. You blog about the things at city hall, but why do the board keep her around? Are they keeping her there to get at the mayor? Do they want her there to cover some dirt they have up their sleeves? What gives? She never know anything about MS laws, or ordinances and she always call the attorney general instead of researching it for herself. Please tell us why Tim and Bobby want her in the office?

  5. Now enough should be enough out of that Fat Whale (Stephanie Mullings). How long is Rebecca, Tim, Bobby and Kent going to keep letting her get the city into situations and they keep taking up for her. She has stolen money and still is stealing from they dumb behinds and replaced it, cancelled a check on a employee who earned her time, holding citizens water bill checks, hiding applications of people she dont like after they have applied for her job, telling her mammie and yes I said mammie! She is telling that old whince personal issues about the City of Lumberton employees which is against the law for her to discuss anybodys personal business!! Now correct me if I'm wrong, in any other city a employee would be terminated for those same actions if they did something like that. But not in Lumberton! She can sit her big behind in city hall and do whatever she feels like doing and when it all boils down to it she doesnt have a clue what the hell she is doing. She cant provide documentation on anything that she so-called says is against the law. She makes up her own laws as she goes along and the dummies dont realize that everything she is doing gone fall right back to they dumb asses!! I just wonder how long they(Tim, Rebecca, Bobby and Kent) gone let her keep doing stuff and getting away with it!! But rest assure what is done in the dark will always come to the light! She is a liar, thief and a hippacrite!!! Jonathan keep doing what you are doing and let he file a stalking charge and she gone look like a real fool. Because when she has a profile on the internet so everybody in the world can see and hope that she knows that just because that you are not her friend that you cannot see that horrible picture she has on Facebook!! Its not stalking Dumb Bi***!! Call ya lawyer, call whoever you wanna call because you put your information on Facebook Jonathan didn't!! Know the law Elephant!! LMAO!! Keep up the good work Jonathan!!!!!!

  7. Enough is enough. You keep posting your opinions, lies, conjecture, innuendo, and hearsay as the truth. So put all your cards on the table. If you have the physical proof to back up your claims that Stephanie is stealing from the City of Lumberton, post it here and be done with it. I mean actual proof. I want to see the pictures of her having an affair with that officer. I want to see the pictures of her stealing money from the city and office supplies from city hall. I want to hear the audio recordings of her making racist comments. Frankly your personal vendetta against the woman is getting old. And now you take it to a personal level by taking potshots about her weight and looks. Are you an adult or a 10 year old child? If things are so bad in Lumberton, why haven't the citizens contacted the state attorney general and demanded an investigation into these so-called illegal activities? How is your personal hatred of Stephanie helping the city? All you do is sit in your car in the parking lot of the library so you can latch on to their wi-fi and stir up trouble without offering any solutions that don't involve getting rid of the people you have a personal grudge against. So either put up or shut up! Show us the proof. Stop with the innuendos, hearsay, and conjecture...none of which could be used as evidence in a court of law! And let me put one more point out there. If Stephanie were to get fired because of the nonsense you post on here and if an investigation were launched which PROVED the things said in you blog were false, she could sue you for libel. Something to think about when you post something a friend of a friend told you...

  9. That is the thing! Stephanie may or may not have a case right now, but let her get fired and lawyers will chasing her to take her case. Libel, slander and defamation mean nothing if you can't show where it negatively affected your livelihood, income, health, etc. What these ignorant people don't understand is that true or not, this board can't fire her now without inviting a major lawsuit on the city. She could easily show that the crazy mayor harrassed her, she endured a hostile work environment with threats made against her at work, discrimination...think the city is hurting now? Wait until they are paying off a multi-million dollar damages award to her. Idiots! You aren't hurting her as much as you are hurting the city and you are too ignorant to see it. What business would want to base operations here with this scandalous mess and a workforce full of complete idiots who would rather suck off the welfare teet instead of working?

  10. Is that what you tricks think. . Mississippi is an at will state, meaning that you are employed at the will and pleasure of your employer. Terminating Stephanie will not result in a multi-million dollar lawsuit, but cancelling the check of an employee without a direct order from the board, might. For the unlearned, direct order means that it was discussed, voted on and entered into the official minutes of the city, not via text messages and phone calls. But your comment was correct about one thing, Lumberton's workforce, namely the city clerk's office, is full of idiots and Stephanie is her leader. Smoke it out.

  11. At will does not mean you cannot get sued. Believe me, I have watched it happen myself and have seen it at all levels of county and state government (of which I have worked in for ten years). If you work in the private sector you have no ground to stand on as a terminated employee. However, in the public sector, your cause for termination better be based on solid, documented evidence and you better be prepared to be sued anyway. I've seen state agencies get sued for firing employees for stealing, mileage fraud, sexual relations in offices, all with documented proof of the infractions. I even worked for a county administrator with twenty-five years of service who got fired over sending emails through the county email system that were obviously sexual harassment. Guess what? He sued and got a really nice settlement to augment his early retirment. But that was cheaper than the county being sued by the harassed employee for not dealing with the problems of sexual harassment and hostile work environment. In many cases, state and county agencies have settled and paid claims rather than face the uncertainty of the court costs and negative PR that a lawsuit generates.

  12. Its pretty sad that this grown adult as nothing better to do than to worry about the city of lumberton's business. Seriously!!!!! Come on now!!! If your so worried why didn't you run for office and do a better job! And you post things on here calling people names and then want to praise God in the next sentence.. Do you not think God knows your every thoughts and everything you write on here. I'm not a perfect person nor do I proclaim to be one but I know I would hate to be you to have to lay my head down at night knowing all I have done during the day was bash Gods people and such hatred towards people. I know the only thing will help you is prayer and a lot of it!!!
