SSDB-- May 4, 2010 Board Meeting

A group of individuals came out on Monday night to protest against the promotion of Officer Franklin. Well, your complaints did not help because Officer Franklin was given a promotion and a take home car. I don't know who voted how since this decision was made in executive session, but it would be interesting to know how each member voted. I have heard the complaints against Franklin, but I do not have a problem with the way he operates. I know that I don't have to deal with large groups of rowdy teens congregating on the corner of Myrick Avenue when Franklin is on duty. I think his methods are balanced by the methods employed by Chief Fortenberry.
Also, there was a local man placed on the agenda to be hired, but I don't think the board hired him as an officer. Hiring Daniel Wilczek would have been a great benefit to the city. He lives within the city limits, and most importantly, he paid to attend the police academy. The board did not hire him, but they have decided to keep Sharese Holder on as a police clerk so that they can have her working at the police department when there's an opening for the police academy. So, the City of Lumberton wants to keep a person on payroll so they can pay for them to attend the police academy, but they don't want to hire a person that paid his own fees to attend the police academy? Only in Lumberton!

  1. At least Daniel Wilczek manned up and worked hard and paid his way through proper training and certification.
