I Need Your Input

To those that actually read this blog, I need your input. I have asked several people to re-read the post "Tales From The Hood" so I can get a better understanding of what went wrong. I've been blogging for over a year, and suddenly, there is this explosion of accusations and finger-pointing. By posting this story, I was attempting to highlight the actions of an elected official, as well as the police officers. Somehow, this story took on a life of it's own. Of all the stories I posted, I used the most discretion in reporting this story. I could have easily called out the name of the alderman and his family members, but that wasn't the point. The point I wanted to get across was why didn't anyone go to jail for what took place? And to top that off, I was told that the manager of Greentree is supposed to be upset with me as well. What is that all about? So, I am calling on some intellectuals that have the ability to read and comprehend what's written to send me an e-mail or comment about the "Tales From The Hood" posting. Maybe I'm just obivilouis to what was said, but I would appreciate some straight-forward input about what I actually said; I am not concerned about the comments that were made after my posting. Please let me know if you want your response to remain private.

  1. I was wondering the same thing, why no one went to jail? There is no need for anyone to get offended about what went on, because when your business is in the streets, it's EVERYBODY's business.

  3. I have been a newspaper journalist for more than 15 years, so, in my professional opinion, the main points of your post were: 1. A lack of security at Greentree 2. Political influence over law and order 3. Family ties. Of course people are upset at you! The truth hurts, especially when that truth is stranger than fiction. You cannot be thin skinned if you're going to be a blogger.

  4. I understand what you was trying to point out. You never said nothing about rape and that person took it to a whole new level. This is not the first time the alderman's family and this family got into it and nobody went to jail. I like reading your blogs because I know its the truth. You never called nobodys name and besides everybody in Lton is talking about it. The aldermen need to let the police do their job even if family members are involved. I remember an instance that happened in Turnkey and because it involved a family member the police that was related had to sit in the car. It's called conflict of interest. Keep writing the blog.

  5. The problem is that everybody knew who you were talking about and some people think it's ok to talk about other people in the street until it hits home. I personally didn't see anything wrong with it because first of all somebody had to give you all those details and obviously it's true because it struck some nerves.

  6. I think I'm going to take the advice that C Bates gave and start putting videos on the blog. I was thinking about posting the fight tapes that were so popular in this city not so long ago.

  7. I for one am very glad to see that someone is upset about reading their own stories in this blog. Maybe now they will get some self respect and stop acting like everything they do is okay. It has always been, in this city anyway, that every morning you can drink your coffee and hear stories about what is going on with the young people after hours. Its a shame that any family would get mad at you for simply writing the truth. You do not pick out a particular group of people, nor do you use any names, therefore they have no reason to be upset. Seriously, almost everybody in town had already heard about it before your blog so what they need to do instead of being upset with you is make a serious lifestyle change, and it shouldnt matter what family you come from, everyone should be treated the same, isn't that what equal and civil rights are all about? Keep up the good work.

  8. Why are you ASKING for feedback? Don't you get enough already? Who cares about what people think you might have said. You state your views quite clearly and if the readers are intelligent enough to read your blog, then they should have enough knowledge to understand it. THIS IS YOUR D@*# BLOG! Keep working it and doing it the way you want to. If someone is so darn offended, then by all means, get their own!
Thanks JJ for keeping up informed and being a voice that demands to be heard.

  9. Call Me Mr. TibbsJuly 1, 2010 at 9:28 AM

There are a couple of factors here. Reading and relevance. First there is a difference between Reading and Understanding. Anyone can pronounce words but comprehension involves another skill set. So people take a word or a phrase out of context and draw their own conclusions. On the matter of relevance, The Tales from the Hood was funny to me. You had me rolling with the the play by plaw or blow by blow!commentary! As a previous commenter mentioned its ok to talk in the street until it involves your family. Ive laughed at plenty of things Ive heard, "allegedly" happening or not lol. Even when my family was involved. But it is what it is. Whomever put Lakesha's son out there were out of line. But you dont patrol this page 24/7 so I dont see how you're to blame. That comment wasn't even related to the topic. Lumberton is a fishbowl and its hard to hide things for long north or south of highway 13. Keep doing your thing and hope the readers have enough sense to eat the fish and spit out the bones,& if they can't oh well....
