Review of Special Called Meeting

The hearing for the FY 2015 budget is set for September 8, 2014 at 6:00 pm and the date for the adoption of the FY 2015 budget has been set for September 15, 2014 at 5:00 pm. The board is now back peddling to get insurance coverage. The other month they accepted a proposal from a fish oil salesman without asking for anything in writing. He claimed he would save the city over $100,000/year bit since at least 10 people on the payroll for the City of Lumberton are over 60 years old, the rates are higher. For instance, coverage for the mayor is costing the city $935.41/month. The City of Lumberton is looking at insurance payments that will cost at least $135,000/year. The board voted to approve Michelle Fuller of Bancorp South Insurance Services as agent of record for all health insurance for employees for the City of Lumberton. The board approved the signing of the CDBG Grant Program for a waste water treatment facility for a new sewer collection system on Lower Airport Road. The money from this project will come from a grant application; if approved. The board gave in to the threats from the Lamar County Board of Supervisors and will release them from their obligation to use the South Lamar Industrial Park for economic development. Jay McGraw, Kent Crider and Tommy Dukes voted to allow Mayor Winston to sign the waiver, quit claim deed and statement of intent so the land can be used for cattle. Quincy Rogers and Cora Rogers voted against the blackmail tactics of Warren Byrd, District 2 Supervisor. The board then closed the meeting to go into executive session to discuss personnel issues. At the time of this post, they're still in executive session while I type this on my Smart phone. I'm sure they will come back with no decision made or refuse to say what was discussed. Any new details will be posted in the comment section.

  1. The board just called Melissa into executive session and Jay McGraw came out saying he needed something to drink.

  2. Melissa exits the executive session, grabs her purse and goes outside for a moment.

  3. The board accepted the resignation of deputy clerk, Melissa Willoughby. Merlene cried as she read the vote. Things got heated as the meeting came to a close.

  4. It's funny how Merlene acted like she was so hurt when she informed the audience of Melissa's resignation but just minutes before leaving executive session, Merlene recommended the termination of Melissa because "we can't have employees behave in that manner. " Snake to the end.

  5. One down two to go. Now they need to get rid of Merlene and Keenon with their funky attitudes.

  6. Melissa had no intentions of staying in that office. That's why she always told Audrey and her husband everything going on at city hall. Melissa needed the insurance to get her surgery. Merlene was in on it and that's why she made sure Melissa had enough hours so she could keep her insurance. Based on the past, clerks always hire another partner in crime to help them rob the city. Merlene and Melissa are another Stephanie and Sue. The only difference, Stephanie actually knew her job. Merlene does not. Let's see if Merlene can put her big girl panties on and push to hire someone that actually knows city laws. But even if Jonathan applied, this stupid board wouldn't vote to hire him because they're more concerned with personal vendettas than they are with making the city better. Jonathan, please set aside your pride and apply. I'm sure your presence in the office is enough to make Merlene quit.

  7. I am going to say this again. Please send Merlene home. We as citizens need to get together and fire Jay McGraw, Kent Crider, Tommy and Ben and start with a new board. We as Citizen standing together can and will do this. Just say when. Do you have to live in a ward in order to run for Aldman. I think Quincy Rogers is a good Alderman but I wonder if Curtis Merritt could run for ward 4? Oh and Jonathan could be the city clerk. Only the best of the City of Lumberton.

    1. It's a difficult process to have an alderman removed. You have to run for office in your district. A resident of Ward 3 can't seek office as representative for ward 4. Ben has accomplished what he was sent to accomplish...dismantle the police department and ensure no economic growth by turning the industrial park into a cow pasture. Now, he, Paul Ockmond and Jerry Brown can keep a tight fist on what comes to Lumberton because they own the other major land spots. As for Metlene, I don't see her staying much longer. Melissa was the one keeping the office afloat.

  9. I see Tommy, Ben, Jay and Kent got what they wanted. It sad but that's the only thing they have done since
they have been in office and guess what it wasn't for the City of Lumberton. Working together for themselves.

  10. We are only going to see two cows!!!! just In a matter of time we will see what they really wanted the land for!!!
    Snakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. The Biggest snake is the one on the corner every Saturday Morning.
    "Cursing" our City!!!!

  12. If we didn't have Ben,Tommy and Cora up there you would be City Clerk. Lets get together and vote them out!!!
Lumberton Informer tell me what we can do to make this happen as the City of Lumberton? I sure it's something
we can do to correct this wrong doing.

  13. Jay is either on drugs or alchol or possibly both. His voting pattern and behavior is too inconsistent. I hate that Melissa resigned because she was the only glimmer of hope in that office. Merlene is a fake and phony person who's doing nothing for this city but she can put on a good front and manage to get away with doing nothing.

  14. Merlene owe the City of Lumberton 3 times her salary for doing nothing and the interest for causing mess.

  15. Is it that difficult to represent the residents of Ward 1? Rebecca Hale and Jay McGraw are poll popping dopes and it shows in their behavior. They both love helping out at city hall and working in the clerks office knowing they're not bonded for that work but don't cross them when they're in need of a fix and you become a target. Ask Stephanie and Melissa if you don't believe me. Now I'm waiting for Jay to pack up and leave but it might take a while. Especially if he think someone is going to pay $145,000 for that house in a city with no jobs.
