You Are Not Alone

Martin Luther King, Jr. once said "In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." Yesterday, members of the Concerned Citizens of Lumberton rallied at city hall to show their support for Mayor Miriam Holder. The group met at 2:00 p.m. and again at 6:00 p.m. (despite the rain). They said that they wanted transparency at city hall. Several members noted that the arrest of Mayor Holder was another example of abuse of power levied against Mayor Holder by Bobby Gibson, Timothy Johnson and Rebecca Hale. It was said that those three aldermen allegedly, gave Dennis Hobson the go ahead to file charges against Mayor Holder. Surprisingly, WDAM and WHLT were both on hand to cover the rally of support for Mayor Holder. Both news teams focused on the loss of $86,770 in the WSOM department, but the Concerned Citizens of Lumberton presented more concerns to both news anchors. The Concerned Citizens of Lumberton wanted to get answers about the improprieties in the collection of water bill payments, and they also brought up some concerns about Dennis Hobson and some of the officers he hired. For some reason, Stephanie Mullings, city clerk and Dennis Hobson refused to speak on camera. As a result, the news could not get answers to the questions the Concerned Citizens of Lumberton presented to them. The members of the group stated that they will continue in their effort to get answers and they are hoping to shed some light on the corruption that is allegedly taking place at city hall. Members of the groups said that are in the process of forming a voter's league and they also said they will present their concerns to the board at the next regularly scheduled board meeting.
Kudos to those that came out to voice their concerns about the events taking place in the City of Lumberton, but suggest you make sure you are aware of your surroundings at all times. Once the board appointed Hobson as chief of police, he has used his officers to retaliate against me and since he's a one trick pony, I'm certain that he's going to do the same to those that were at city hall protesting. So, please be prepared for the attacks. In an effort to silence you, they are going to attack your character, they are going to try and bring things up from your past, they are going to try and ticket you for any violation they can find, and they might even get to the point of targeting your children. I'm glad that you came out in support of the mayor, but please watch your speed limit, wear your seat belt and tell your children not to go anywhere by themselves.

  1. If you're going to make them realize that you mean business, you have got to hit em where it counts, their pockets. I know that I will not be shopping at the Shell Station since that's Hobon and Bobby Gibson's meeting place. I will not be attending Lumbertfest and I will not be sending my childern to Night Out Against Crime. This whole thing has gotten out of control. I may not be there holding up signs, but I will support you by refusing to shop at place or attend events hosted by people that are trying to ruin our mayor and I hope others will do the same. If it wasn't against the law, I would hold a sign burning and burn all of those Ben Winston signs across town becasue he is the root of all this mess that's going on in Lumberton. Ben Winston is not offering a solution so he must be part of the problem. You better wake up people.

  2. It's time for the people of Lumberton to get off their butts and make this town work. Y'all are sitting back and letting Bobby Gibson dumb ass run all over the mayor. Start taking his picture when he's clearing up the debris for Ms. Bowles or do some other work and send it in to the disability office. Get him and his brother. And the next time he goes over to Woodchase, paying for sex with Deaf Ann, get a picture of her getting out of that white van with her pants still unbuttoned and her blouse open. Most people have camera phones and I know everybody know about him paying for sex. He's usually come around at the end of the month, and I'm going to be over on North 10th Street like the paparazzi.

  3. I'm confused, why did this group choose a name similar to the one started by the LVFD. I know they started a group called the Concerned Citizens for Lumberton and they are totally against the mayor and want her to resign. Now, you guys have the group Concerned Citizens of Lumberton. I hope people don't get the two groups mixed up b/c I was confused when I first saw it.

  4. John thanks for your advice about Hobson coming after us. Some of us and children are already having problems with the police. That's one reason why everyone should come out and show their support. Some of us sit around and talk and complain but when it comes to showing your face you don't come. It's not just about Mayor Holder being arrested. It's about the other problems we as citizens are facing. How many of you pay these high water bills? How many of you pay taxes but don't see where your taxes are going. Ride around look at our town, our streets then ask yourself where is the taxpayers money going? I noticed in LQ you don't know what hole to hit or which one to dodge. You don't have too many choices to dodge. We pay county and city taxes and our streets are terrible. LQ has 2 water leaks that has been repaired numerous times but guess what they are still leaking. Now they are mosquitos in them. West Nile is still happening. Have the aldermen of this community seen this? Yes he has. He rides over the same holes as we do everyday. Has the supervisor seen this? Yes he has on his way to his place. That's the reason he didn't get the votes. Look around and see who is being targeted. Sit and watch and see where the mopeds(police motorcycles) are riding. I'm a registered voter, I pay taxes, I work, I have the right to voice my opinion and support whatever I want to. If Hobson and his crew comes after me, my children, or whoever I know the attorney generals number too.

  5. You know they have implemented the Hobson's Harassment Program at the Lumberton Police Department. The officer that harasses the most residents of Lumberton gets a free steak dinner from Bad to the Bone.

  6. keep hearing ppl say that the LI is only giving one side of the story, but what about WDAM and Hattiesburg American, where is the other side of the story? Like Dr. Phil always say, no matter how flat the pancake, there's always two sides. If Mayor Holder was obstructing justice, why is the young man still in jail? Now, when Bobby Gibson came and threatened the police when his newphew was about to be put in jail and they didn't arrest him or his nephew, that was obstruction of justice. I don't know where the men of Lumberton are. Jonathan is not one of the, how can I say this, most masculine men in town, but he's not backing down from our corrupt police dept. or the aldermen/supervisor that helped them abuse their positions. It seems that most of the black men in this town are just p-u-s (do I need to spell it out). You sit back and let them two house n-i-g-g (do I need to spell it out) degrade Mayor Holder when you should be filling the board room like you do when it comes to a football game or a birthday party with free liquor. Bobby, Tim and Ben wouldn't allow their wives to be treated in this manner or maybe they would. Stop gathering up at Big K and talking ish if you can't back it up. I don't know what it's going to take. It seems that back in the day, black men were real men. I remember the times when we had to get together to deal with Sheriff Chastain and let him know we weren't going to take his mess. Maybe since most black men are more concerned with showing their ass cracks and wearing pink, yellow, and lime green shoes, sitting around talking about what they would have done if they were in the game (let Vick do his job) they forgot what it's like to be a real man. I have never seen it this bad. We have had some of the most racist ppl imaginable to sit on the board (Tim and Bobby included), but this really takes the case. Jon, keep making it do what it do and watch your back because its evident that Hobson has the ability to even make false charges stick.

  8. Dear Lord, please let these blind people see, so that our town can return to a nice, southern, pleasant place to live. I cry for our town. If you, too, are sad; pray things can shape up without all the name calling and pettiness. God don't like ugly.

  9. I'd like to commend you Jonathan for being proactive in this mess.
I would also like to really commend the brave citizens that were proactive in their protest.
I couldn't make everyone out clearly, but I say GOOD JOB! Thank You for getting out there, not caring about who sees you and doing something. I wish I could have been there to join in.
But one question? Where were all the "christians" who are for what's right? All you who shake your head at the unfairness, all who called Mayor Holder and said you were praying for her? Where were her fellow Mission women, parents of children and grandchildren that she taught and helped to raise, neighbors that know her character, members of the deacon board that her husband is a part of?
Where the righteous folks at? I know it's some here cause the town is still here.
In the words of Rev. Al Sharpton, "where there is wrong, the righteous must show up" (paraphrased).
Yall can say what you want about E. Underwood, but what you can't say is that he did nothing. He didn't get on camera babbling and he stayed focused on the mistreatment of the mayor and the missing money.
Oh, and I see Hopson upgraded the charges on the mayor to a felony. This happened after the protest. Prayerfully, a judge will throw this mess out. That shows again he likes to hide behind his badge and retaliate. Somebody needs to check that badge anyway, cause I hear it is as fake as Stephanie's bookkeeping log.

  10. Im glad to see Dennis Hobson is getting in there and doing what every other officer and board member was scared to do because of what the citizens and family of them that live in Lumberton might say about them. Its ridiculous how we have kids in Lumberton running the city, bc no one will let the officers do their job. Order needs to be restored in the Great City of Lumberton. If we had more people like Dennis Hobson Working for the city of Lumberton i may would move back. Its hard for anyone to be a success in Lumberton and its hard to prosper there bc of the great city council members that we have leading our city. If you don't let the police do their jobs then u will continue to have more robberies and break-ins bc the city council is for their family members no matter if they are in the wrong or right. Larry should have been re-elected bc he never got in the police officers way of doing their jobs. If you were in the wrong you were in the wrong no matter who u were. Miriam Holder should be locked up, cause there have been several incidents where the police get called to a fight or some other call and she would show up to the persons home trying to intrude in the officers duties of the law. I blame the city being a mess like it is bc of Mrs. Holder she was a good school teacher but as far as running a city she is not the right person for the job. I believe if we let Dennis Hobson run things like he has been running them we as a city will see a change for the good, and lets get a city council together that will back the police and there duties as officers of the law. but stand up for all the citizens when its time to stand up for them. I know there are a lot of dirty cops out there but there are also a lot of good honest cops out there and I believe Dennis Hobson to be one of those good cops.
